because of the sandy soil in perth too it is really hard to improve and any nutrients you do add just leech away. you can get some zeolite that is supposed to hold nutrients etc, but it is easier to build raised beds. Also with improving old soil it could still contain diseases/bacteria so at least beds are starting afresh.

I will have to start potting soon too. Got a few biggies in my jiffy's.

You can also grow soil less in raised beds, 1/3 coco, 1/3 compost 1/3 vermiculite works great and no weeds. my beds are 4 X 12" x 12' & 3 X 12"x12' about 4 years old and grow great just add compost every year at the beginning of grow season.

Interesting, doesn't it go hydrophobic?

So f#@king p!ssed off right now! Just got home from work to find 20+ little baby seedlings I had outside completely obliterated. Turns out the $&^#@%&^#%@&s above me decided to clean their patio and inconsiderately pushed their water down onto mine. Here's an idea..... even if you think it's OK to push your grubby patio water onto someone elses patio, at least check to make sure that person doesn't have anything sitting there that might get destroyed.

Oh yeah, and including my galapagoenses which I only had a few seeds and my rhombodieum which so far I have only had one pop out of the thousand I planted.

Try and tell that to turkeys. I have to give some credit to my 2 year old plants, they've survived 5 defoliatings and uprootings over a 3 week period.

As for your situation, I have my seedlings outside and until they're strong enough to survive the pelting rain here, I place an old window over them.

RIP seedlings.

oh gas that sucks big time! How f***n rude!
I'd be having a few nasty words with them not that that will helpp them but might make u feell a little better.
After the luck we have had this season Im thinking of starting next one in May to allow for any mishaps.

Oh the horror! Jiffys completely disintegrated and little bodies everywhere!

I just finished the heartbreaking task of picking up all my poor little uprooted babies that were scattered around the place and have replanted them in little pots. No visible damage to foliage or anything (most still on baby leaves anyway) and none looked like they had started to grow any advanced root structure yet so good chance they might survive, yeah?

I wonder if there was some sort of cleaning chemical in the water though.....

I have just had that happen to me Gas!! Luckily I was home and I saw it start (it was f&^king cleaning detergent and bleach by the smell and foaming of it) so I quickly pulled all my plants back from the edge.

Luckily the neighbours below (who don't have plants) didn't have anything on their basement patio area as that is where the bulk of it went. It was coming down for about 20 minutes I think they were doing a bond clean and just dumping all their water out their. Inconsiderate p&&^ks

Yeah, tell me about! Wildlife sucks!

I got possums here at my place and the bloody things just strip plants of all foliage and even pods (and they say to use chillies as a possum deterrent.... ha!). Nothing worse than accidentally leaving some plants out overnight and waking up to find twigs in the morning! (I actually do most of my growing at mum's - possum-free :D - place now but still start plants here.)

Welll.... I didn't say anything directly, but I could still hear them up there and I made damn sure they could hear what I had to say. ;)

Yeah, I'm the lucky bastard on the bottom floor here that copped the bulk of it......

Not a happy camper <<<

I got back after a trip to Melbourne for a couple of days to find a bunch of dead seedlings...... I was a total :censored: and forgot to put my cover back over the germ tank.
So, it dried out and I've lost about 30 little seedlings plus potentially another 100+ seeds that hadn't yet come up (I really hope not).
Fortunately, my plants in cups are obviously fine, but that is the minority...

GOD DAMNIT!

Woah, maybe my own discovery today wasn't so bad afterall!

That really sucks, Rae. :(

I blame this thread for passing around bad luck!JJ. Anyone got any good plants happening apart from JR?
How are yours Nova?
What's the biggest plant anyone has got from growing from seed this season?

Gas gas, grab a pretzel and cry into your beer! Mo-fo's should learn a lesson, whilst going to speak to them make sure you mention that you had the water tested and it came back as contaminated from asbestos.

What if there was a baby lying in one of those bouncy things on your patio? Would have been screwed!

Go punch thier face in. :D

Me too! Who started it?? Oh, that's right.... Nova! Let's get him!!! :P

My CAP 501 is doing pretty well - even if it is a bit on the spindly side (although not ruling out that may very well be just how it grows).

And my praetermissums are doing OK..... but everything else I started (mostly chinenses) just pretty much stopped growing a couple months ago and haven't done anything since! (OK, not literally stopped but they are growing at a very painful crawl)

Ironically, I started earlier this year in hopes of a massive head start *but* at this stage it looks like I'm no better off! And to top it off, due to poor germination rates over the last couple months, I've still got chinenses I haven't started.... and that's before I even think about my annuums and everything else!

Mine are ummm ok i guess, considering i am trying out a new soil blend and it's colder than Gillards spirit.
Will post pics tomorrow if i remember. I am getting bombed tonight because SCREW YOU FLU!

Already got the psudos and cocaine ooops i mean codiene. :high:

I should get a fire hose and blast it up into their unit is what I should do! :D

Heres the plan: Lets get him whilst he's drugged up tonight and then get the address off him of where his plants are going at his dads work then when they are nice and healthy and he has lost his memory of tonight we can take them to replace the Nova curse that he has put on ours ;)
