Yeah, it has been deregistered/banned for use on food crops.

I was using it against my broad mite same time as I was having troubles with fruit fly last year and it didn't really appear to slow 'em down any. Perhaps just like the broad mite, the fruit fly grew resistance to it too? Either way, not touching it again as it will kill my predator mites. Ironically, probably the only thing it will kill now!

I have to admit though, it did work like a charm the first time I used it (against broad mite). I'm wondering now if that's why I didn't start noticing fruit fly until last year (was taking care of 'em before that without even realizing). Again though, if such is the case, it appears they have grown resistance to it too.

Guess it's bagging for me this season.....

(Although that leaf curling looks like it could possibly be mite related.... hard to say at this point but something to keep an eye on.)

The white stuff is just sun scald as above.
The new mis-shapen leaves could be old aphid damage, or mites/thrips. Honestly, chillies don't have a problem with lack of ferts or pot size when younger, should be perfectly fine.
But bugs and fungus is the biggest problem.
Already I have aphids all over my seedlings.

As far as fruit flies, the life cycle is flies infect the fruit, fruit falls to the ground, maggots gestate in the ground. Besides baits and traps, I've heard the best other treatment is nematodes in the ground.
Bait every plant that attracts them. Bin every infected fruit, get the right kind of nemotode that attacks the maggots in the ground.

What about lebaycid?

edit: Looks like Fenthion (lebaycid) is undergoing the same review process as Rogor/Dimethoate, and if you go to http://www.apvma.gov...lternatives.php it says:

"Although fenthion is also registered for fruit fly control, growers should not consider it a permanent replacement for dimethoate. The review of fenthion is ongoing and due for completion in 2012."

Hmm...

2nd edit: Spinosad is apparently recommended as a natural/safe alternative, but http://www.yates.com.au/products/pest-control/insects-concentrates/natures-way-fruit-fly-control/ didn't work very well for me when I tried it a while back.

That weather looks like a nice way to freeze and then toast your young plants. When is the estimated day of last frost in your town (that I've figured is not really Brisbane)?

Yea just outside of brisbane I live in ipswich about 30-40 minutes out of brisbane and it looks like tuesday or wednesday so I really hope the missus doesn't half ass it otherwise the last three months of slowly growing them throughout winter will be a big fail.

Yea Logans only about 20minutes or so, if it does hit the -1 thats the coldest this winter and funnily enough thats on sunday which is the first day of spring... oh well here's some pics of when I put them in the system

I just found aphids on 3 of my seedlings, not happy! I didn't see one aphid last year until it was warm and my plants were fairly mature, but these guys were on seedlings with only 4 leaves. Needless to say they're all green mush now

That's funny.... I just found a couple aphids on one of my babies this morning too. Flicked an ant of one of my plants yesterday.... I knew that bugger was up to no good.

I was dead tired, but I have a window, If I'm not asleep by 9.30, I ain;t going to be until about 2am. I seem to not be able to sleep bewteen 9-12 like normal people. I get a second wind and get wide awake again furing those hours.
I was almost falling asleep during F1 qualifying at 9pm. Went to bed, missed that window though as still awake at 10.30 as I couldn't get comfortable. So BAM! Out of bed at 10.30pm and up and up and up. Hard to go to bed early on a saturday. And that window of opportunity to sleep before 9.30pm has passed, so I literally have to pass out now somehow for sleep as it's after 9pm.

Been watching tim minchin clips, bit of buzzcocks and stuff.
