Some weird disease, possibly? PLEASE ADVISE!

G'day   Living in Auckland, NZ.   Have a Pubescens (Orange rocoto.. ID unknown) that has been struggling in a rather small-ish pot for a few years now. Been fed and has fruited.. just hasn't really done that great. Decided to repot the wee bugger today and whilst doing so, I noticed that there...

overwintering Germinating and growing Rocoto in my winter?

Hi http://www.metservice.com/towns-cities/auckland/auckland-central That's the prediction for the next week and I think our shortest day is the 13th, possibly - so it's likely to stay somewhat similar. I am thinking about buying...

    Multiple IDs :D

So, what is THIS? TSMR or Brain? I'm guessing TSMR... And what is this? And this? My guess is a Brain. And this? TSMY or 7 Pot Yellow? It has to be one of the two. This? I took a slightly TSMR looking pod off it? And this? Caribbean Red? Congo Trinidad?

Black Nagas - Do They Ripen to Red First?

I bought a black naga plant from a gardening store - A few pods have ripened but they have gone to red. Is this the first colour change or do I not have a black naga? I tasted one of the pods when green - they are definitely piquant :D

    Are fatalis finicky about anything?

I only ask because there have been buds forming, flowering and dropping off seemingly for weeks now while everything else is fruiting. Do they need more water? Less water or nutes? It is more or less in full sun.

    Day length & fruiting

Hi So, do chillis bud, flower and fruit in response to day length shortening at all? There seems to be an explosion of flowers and pods lately - temps are still low 80s during the day and that looks well set to stay but daylight hours are definitely less!

From flower "death" to a ripe pod..

How long does this typically take for a pod to grow and ripen given good conditions? I'm just a bit worried - my douglah is only just starting to bud (No flowers opening yet) And there's only 2 1/2-3 months of pretty good conditions left :( I learnt my lesson... START EARLY.

Is it worth repotting once they're fruiting? And safe to?

What up! Happy Waitangi Day to all the Kiwis around. Now, I have a plant that I am sure of with regard to its varietal but it is *beautiful*. I have never seen a healthier looking plant. From pot to top, it's just bushy, vibrant and wonderful. It's a couple of weeks into developing pods -...

    Green pods

Let's say I am a bit of a capsaicin slut and I can't bring myself to wait the few weeks for pods to ripen... How do green pods compare to red ones in terms of heat and flavour? Like MUCH less hot and MUCH less flavourful? Also, I've noticed some of the pods are a pale green but others are a dark...

    So what is happening here?

Generally healthy plants - no aphids or anything. Just the leaves curl a bit, bit more brittle and rusty looking shit. Am I overwatering or too much fert? I fert once every 7-10 days and water every day or two. Really when it looks dry-ish on top. Here are some pics to better explain...

The excitement of not knowing what the hell you have!

I know what I started with. I didn't label my pots and instead, put them in alphabetical order of what I would have in neat rows. Then someone moved all of them and destroyed my system - now I have a whole bunch of plants around my garden in pots without knowing what the hell they are... But...

shopping Leaf yellowing on my recently purchased black naga?

Ashamed to say - I bought a couple of plants from the plant centre. The black naga was bearing small fruit, looked healthy and I repotted it, gave it some fert and I think I may have pee'd on it too :D The outsides of the leaves are yellowing roughly a week later - what's the story? Here's a...

What is the perfect chilli growing weather?

So, what is it? Does everyone else agree that the chillis from northeastern India/Bangladesh require more fertile, wetter soils with more humidity? Whilst the Trinidad varieties etc prefer crappier, more arid soil with a drier climate? I have been thinking about this lately - in the tropics...

pests The SWARM of tiny dark bugs on my garlic/onions

Okay, I know they're not chillis. I had my garlic which, albeit, was not performing well apparently succumb to a swarm of dark brown insects that literally coat the whole f**king plant. They could be aphids - they drop to the dirt with any confrontation and when I squash hundreds of them it's...

pests Got aphids? Get praying mantii!

I thought my plant was doomed. A baby 7 Pot Brain. It was looking stunted and my world had collapsed in a matter of seconds as I lifted the leaves to see what was there and saw little green bugs dropping to the soil. What's a man to do? I found the baby praying mantis lurking on one of my...

    Temperatures for my babies!

Hi guys Spring isn't quite as warm as usual here in Auckland - it's about 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit (10-13oC) here at night and then around 68oF during the day. Once my seedlings have been hardened off - can they deal with this or is it too cold for them? I'm buying a little tunnel greenhouse to...

Let's average out those germination times!

Why not? The hydro boys can have their own but for anyone growing straight into soil, potting mix, peat or whatever - post your germination times for any successful seeds and their name. Then we can put it into an Excel sheet and post the averages per variety - not the most accurate but gives...

    ChilliNZ's as-close-to-nature-as-I-can-get-it GLOG!

Hi. Okay, maybe not that close. I'm using good quality potting mix from the plant shop for everything. I first started off using two hot water cupboards - I don't know if you have them in the US but it is just a hot water cylinder for your house and makes the cupboard within which they reside...
