 Someone said "no solos, James plays on two strings and Lars sounds like he's banging on trash cans"  that was all I needed to hear.

You know, that is a pretty accurate description.
I think the title track is actually the best one on the album. The rest of the songs are similar but worse.

80's metallica, slayer, sepultura, pantera, mastodon, cannibal corpse, THE BEATLES, pink floyd, nirvana,five finger death punch, in this moment has a few good songs, butcher babies have a couple good ones, even little cindy lou who (taylor momsen) has a few good songs, her band is the pretty reckless.  thats a few of the bands i like. there is a lot more though

Ok, I'm pretty disappointed, but I wasn't expecting much.  Sounds like most of the tripe that came out during that time period that I hated. At least they don't need 9 members to sound that crappy. :rofl:

I've been working on rebuilding my music collection for about 2 years now.  I still have hundreds of albums on my old computer that I can't get into right now but this is what I'm working with right now.  As you might notice, it's mostly metal

I see your metal archives and raise you a metalkesh ;)

EDIT: I happen to see one of the bands TNR recommended has a new album available, may have to swipe it...not too sure about it though Novembers doom is good sounding...but I prefer more doom than death. I'll get the album and check out all the songs :D

Runemagick is an excellent doom band.

Not really a black metal fan. Just never got into it.

Turbid North is phenomenal. I grew up with them back home in Alaska and it is amazing how they have progressed from being the premier teenage bar band playing at the Underground to the monsters they've become. Their album "Under The Eight" represents their older stuff (even though I wish they had their OLD old stuff available) and their album "Orogeny" is a good idea of their transformation to heavier, more mature, progressive stuff.

Only just found this thread. Why did I not see it sooner?

IKF, you're missing Fear Factory bro!

This intro will forever be one of my favorites. It was my introduction to more modern metal.

Fear Factory are by far my favourite band, followed by Pantera and Lamb of God.

I like pretty much almost anything in the metal world.

I like FF's old stuff, pre-Mortal Kombat soundtrack stuff.

Speaking of chocolate reapers,

Mike Smith of Suffocation is a beast on drums.  Basically the inventor of the waterfall blast, probably one of my favorite drummers.

Not related to the bands on hand exactly, but has anyone heard of the Manowar drinking game? If you know Manowar, you can tell where this is going. Listen to an album, and every time you hear any of the following(Blood, steel, heart, glory, swords, thunder, war, and king) you take a shot. It's even more funny with sugar free gummy bears.

On topic, I'm putting together a list you might like.

Technical death : The Faceless, Psycroptic, Spawn of Possession, Viraemia, Demilich, Gorguts, Theory In Practice, Martyr, Atheist, Cynic, Hour Of Penace, Fleshgod Apocalypse (last 2 are Italian and pretty higly regarded from what i've read, not yet really listened...).
I don't know well all that ones, i remember i like them btw.

Doom:  Cathedral, Solitude Aeturnus, St Vitus, Black Hole, maybe Tyr and Doomsword. Sleep is a stoner and quite cool!

Merciful Fate (that is cool!)? King Diamond.

Thrash? Exodus!!! Forbidden, Invocator, Section Brain, Ripping Corpse, Annihilator, Dark Angel, Watchtower, Coroner, Mekong Delta, Anacrusis, Toxic, Realm, Agent Steel (not really thrash, but cool!).

Sucidal Tendencies? Dirty Rotten Imbeciles.

Doom and death? Paradise Lost.

Heh I really need to get into my old comp somehow (it barely works long enough for me to pull files).  I do have The Faceless, Spawn of Possession, Atheist, Cynic (old Cynic), St. Vitus, Sleep, King Diamond, Exodus (deadly schools!), Dark Angel  on there.
I'll give the rest a whirl.

No one into black metal?  This is disappointing.  I just scored a bunch of stuff by Gorgoroth and Aura Noir

anything
black/thrash
black/grind
DSBM,
melodic black,
atmospheric black,
viking black

Sry, i really don't like it in general. :P
Btw sometimens ago i heard some folk based bands with viking/blackwhat it is influences, i not that i remember much but are these:
Cruachan: i head first album, quite folk, i like it. If i remember well later they used scream as volcal (first one is clean vocals).
Turisas: a bit over the top, nice btw.
Finntroll: that's a really cool band! Black/polka, they are Finnish but sing in Swedish... Lol.
Now i want to heard that again!

Also:
Hollenton: some death/black/classical/epic, cool!
Lair Of The Minotaur: strange band, quite heavy, but cool.

Btw here free legit Demilich discography download:
http://www.anentity.com/demilich/download.php
I like that stuff, it's crazy.

Speaking about genres this comes to mind, old but aslways lol:
How To Tell The Difference Between Metal Genres
* POWER METAL
The protagonist arrives riding a white unicorn, escapes from the dragon, saves the princess and makes love to her in an enchanted forest.

* THRASH METAL
The protagonist arrives, fights the dragon, saves the princess and f**ks her.

* HEAVY METAL
The protagonist arrives on a Harley, kills the dragon, drinks a few beers and f**ks the princess.

* FOLK METAL
The protagonist arrives with some friends playing accordions, violins, flutes and many more weird instruments, the dragon falls asleep (because of all the dancing). Then all leave…….. without the princess.

* VIKING METAL
The protagonist arrives in a ship, kills the dragon with his mighty axe, skins the dragon and eats it, rapes the princess to death, steals her belongings and burns the castle before leaving.

* DEATH METAL
The protagonist arrives, kills the dragon, f**ks the princess and kills her, then leaves.

* BLACK METAL
The protagonist IS the dragon, dwells in the heart of the night with in a castle full of hellhounds and eternal flames. He kills the sassy knight, f**ks the noble steed and sacrifices the princess to Satan.

* GORE METAL
The protagonist arrives, kills the dragon and spreads his guts in front of the castle, f**ks the princess and kills her. Then he f**ks the dead body again, slashes her belly and eats her guts. Then he f**ks the carcass for the third time, burns the corpse and f**ks it for the last time.

* DOOM METAL
The protagonist arrives, sees the size of the dragon and thinks he could never beat him, then he gets depressed and commits suicide. The dragon eats his body and the princess as dessert. That’s the end of the sad story.

* PROGRESSIVE METAL
The protagonist arrives with a guitar and plays a solo of 26 minutes. The dragon kills himself out of boredom. The protagonist arrives to the princess’ bedroom, plays another solo with all the techniques and tunes he learned in the last year of the conservatory. The princess escapes looking for the ‘HEAVY METAL’ protagonist.

* GLAM METAL
The protagonist arrives, the dragon laughs at the guy’s appearance and lets him enter. He steals the princess’ make up and tries to paint the castle in a beautiful pink colour.

* NU METAL
The protagonist arrives in a run down Honda Civic and attempts to fight the dragon but he burns to death when his moronic baggy clothes catch fire.

* NU METAL (2)
The prince arrives with a ultra noise-gated, detuned guitar, plays a 1 chord, syncopated riff and raps out a song about freedom and inner self. The dragon raises his eyebrow and breathes fire upon him with nonchalance...

* GRINDCORE
The protagonist arrives, screams something completely undecipherable for about two minutes and then leaves…

* Gothic Metal
The princess in a velvet costume starts singing soprano. The protagonist completes the duet when he shows up, they sing while the dragon plays the flute. Suddenly the dragon swallows up the pipe and accidentally scorches the beauty and the protagonist, and then he suffocates to death. All their souls are damned in hell for eternity.

* Industrial Metal
The protagonist arrives wearing greasy overcoat, makes an obscene gestures towards dragon, and gets escorted out of fairy tale land by security guards.

* Speed Metal
Suddenly there is a short solo, the dragon is confused; someone’s screaming weird stuff; the princess realizes she’s been deflowered; the dragon and the princess are still looking for the one who caused this.

* Christian Metal
The protagonist rides in on his way home from Church and sings a mushy power ballad to the dragon about how much Jesus loves him and that the dragon should turn to Him. The Dragon is immediately converted, and when the princess wants to ‘thank’ the protagonist he replies, “Sorry, but I don’t believe in having sex before marriage.”

* SYMPHONIC METAL
The protagonist enters the lair of the dragon with a full choir and orchestra, and the princess sings notes so high-pitched that she makes the dragon go deaf. The dragon tries to burn them all to death, but all of the members of the choir sing so loudly and unified, that it creates a protective bubble, which only grows in strength from the lead guitarist’s solo later in the song, and the flames bounce back and the dragon ends up killing itself while everyone escapes.

heh it's been a while since I've seen that.  I always get a kick out of the Nu-Metal descriptions.  I listened to FIntroll a long time ago.  Kind of lump them in with Ensiferum and Borknagar.  Good stuff, I had forgotten about it.  There's a black/doom sounding band from France (I think, maybe Italy) I like called Glorior Belli that's kind of unusual sounding I usually stream their stuff.  Also a German instrumental post-metal band (a genre I think Americans, Germans, and Russians do best :D )called Omega Massif that someone on this site introduced me to that I'm really liking.
and Glorior Belli reminds me of groove/black, really weird.
also, this band is pretty heavy as far as ambient DSBM goes, from Belgium

Hollenthon is reminding me of what would happen if Melechesh and Jag Panzer had a bastard child, cool stuff

.HAHA. That is a good band that a lot of people don't remember.
I don't think I have seen these guys listed either.

Oh S.O.D. I've heard something 10 or more years ago.

Oh, another extreme group i like:
Sinister:
these are really aggressive
I've heard also Bolt Thrower for the first time. Dang good.

That days there's few stuff to do at work (many are on vacation).
And i'm listening something. Mainly technical thrash. I feel nearly all is epic stuff.

Aspid: extravasation
holy hell! That song is already a fav of mine.

Those russians knew how to play.

I think that the following are amanzig too:
Deathrow, Deception Ignored
Blind Illusion, the Sane Asylum
Powermad, Absolute Power
Loving that kind of stuff!

Here different stuff
Skepticism, Lead and Aether
some funeral doom. Not used to that music, very atmospheric, must hear again.

And that one:
Confessor, Condemned
Labeled as "technical doom metal" with thrash influences so i really should like that. Instead, no, i didn't like that a lot. Maybe hearing it more... Don't like the voice too.

Metal head here ...

All time favorite band that I have seen 7 times is Pantera and in no specific order after them is slayer, cannibal corpse, mastodon , white zombie, helmet , rage against the machine, 6 feet under, obituary, morbid angel ..I can go on and on...

Throw"em up....

Edit..might offend some but there was nothing better then listening to some slayer or cannibal corpse while shooting at the Taliban out the side of my helicopter with my xm-218 50cal machine gun....getting goose bumps thinking about it..

Also recently found an old school band called "Pentagram" man they kick ass wish I heard them much earlier in life
