Bodeen's 2013 Grow _-_ Love at First Sting

Not actually starting this yet. Just trying to get my thoughts together on what and how many I will be planting of everything. There is the possibility that there will be no cows here next year and the pastures will be made into corn fields. This would mean the barn lot will be free and empty. It grows some of the best grass on the farm and the barn does have a well and a pump already there. Could it be garden number 3??? Also contemplating enlarging the back garden again.

Made up some salsa.  Farmer called up asked if I wanted some sweet corn.  20 dozen ears later and my Friday empty slate is now full.

Time to blanch and freeze the corn.  Its the farmer that rents my farmland.  He plants a few acres of the stuff.  Peaches and Cream is the kind of corn it is I believe.  Going to have my winters supply in.

Glad I stuffed my face with blackberries while I was in the garden just now.

PS - I second what Scott said.

Been a while since I have been on this.  First 10 days of the month are the last 10 of my data usage cycle on my laptop, and for some reason I am always running short.  About to switch to unlimited.

Almost finished off the gallon of refrigerator dills made with the peach habanero.  The bottom of the barrel is getting hotter all the time lol.  I tried a piece of the hab and it still has some zip.

No picture of the Santa Fe Grande pepper plant.  But the pods are 6-7 inches long which seem to me to be way too big.  Like a Hungarian pepper.  The colors are right though.  I had a ripe one, so I gave it a taste test.  Sweet to start with, then a little heat.  Ate the entire pod and had like no heat at all, but quite sweet.  After I was done, the heat came.  Mostly on my lips.  Not sure about this plant.  Will be buying new seed for next years grow.

So far this season I am getting a lot of pod, but not many are getting ripe.  Discouraging as I want to make more pickles, but I can't get any habs to get ripe.

Butch is loaded.  This plant came from a pod from Matt

Now these red ones I don't know what they are.  The tag was written on both sides, one was TS yellow, the other was Assam.  Obvious it isn't yellow.  First time growing Assam, so I don't know.  Any ideas?  It will be a few days before I can post a plant pic.

Chocolate Cayenne - Best Harvest.  Posted this picture on fb and some people are saying that's a great idea and they'd love to try that.  I think they believe I did chocolate covered cayenne peppers lol.  I think I will let them run with it.

Will do that.  Picking up supplies today.

From the garden ?

No, salt and flour and some canning supplies.  50 pounds of sugar.  Making some more zucchini muffins and canning salsa and the pickles take up some as well.  Try to stock up on things when I go to Sams to save on gas for trips.

How do the chocolate cayenne taste? Thanks

They have more of a pepper taste to them if that makes any sense.  I want to say like smokey or sweeter than a regular cayenne, but that isn't quite it either.  The heat is a bit delayed on eating them.  Put a whole one in an omelet yesterday and it was a darn good omelet.

Teriyaki ginger and garlic marinated pork loin on garlic bread with hot pickles and hot peppers.  You can't see them, but I put some peach habanero pieces from the pickles on the sandwich as well and it made it a perfect sandwich.

Awesome Butch T plant for sure. Do you blanch the corn and remove it from the cob and freeze it? My dad turned me onto that a few years ago since there is always corn on our farm and my uncles 8 acre garden. Nothing better than the middle of winter breaking out a bag and making it feel like summer!

Blanch the corn for a few minutes, then dump it into ice water before cutting it off the cob and bagging it for the freezer.  I like to always put some in a tinfoil pan with some diced hot peppers and onions and cooking them on the grill when I grill out.  OMG is that good.

Thanks for the compliment on Butch.  So much better than the plant I grew last year.  Might have to try to OW this one.
