Bodeen's 2013 Grow _-_ Love at First Sting

Not actually starting this yet. Just trying to get my thoughts together on what and how many I will be planting of everything. There is the possibility that there will be no cows here next year and the pastures will be made into corn fields. This would mean the barn lot will be free and empty. It grows some of the best grass on the farm and the barn does have a well and a pump already there. Could it be garden number 3??? Also contemplating enlarging the back garden again.

Yes sir!

Nice harvest with great color...it's so much fun to share!

Thank you.  I agree with the sharing.  No sense in me drying or freezing peppers that are more than I can use.  I don't do sauce since the ph thing looks to be a bit too tricky for me lol.

Top notch harvest Jeff!  You are really in full swing, tons of pods poppin for ya!

Gotta love the good karma!

Thanks Matt.  40 degrees this morning at 5 AM so I think I will be having a lot of pods popping quickly.  Hoping to make it to the end of October before I get frosted.

Nice Harvest!

Thank you.

Today's harvest was a small one.  Picked off some cajun bells to make into powder, the same with a dozen or so Chenzo and 61 aji habanero.

Now it is on to making some homemade noodles and a venison dish!!!

Okies....and the recipe? Ignorant minds (mine) are wondering.. ;)
Brown ground venison, or use stew meat (like you would use for beef tips and noodles).  I like to saute the onions, peppers, mushrooms separately.  In my 8 quart pot, with an extra thick bottom to prevent scorching, I put in x amount of water and some beef base, garlic, and any other spices you might like and bring to a boil.  Taste and adjust until where you like it.  I like to add the veges and meat in after the noodles are done.

For making the noodles it is pretty straight forward.  X number of eggs and flour.  A lot of people will add salt, I add a pinch of chicken base.  You want to add enough flour until mix is good and tight so you can knead it with your hands and not get gooey.  Flour your table and start rolling em out.  A good dough knife will come in handy as you roll the noodles out they will like to stick.  Flour the top side and using the knife roll noodles onto themselves and essentially turn the over.  Add more flour and repeat.  Don't worry too much about holes and tears.  Thinner the better.  If I wanted to do mine correctly, I would have split it into two balls and rolled them out separately and got a much thinner noodle.

Once they dry a little, roll them up like a carpet.  You want your roll to end up being an inch wide.  Then slice them up, the thinner the better.

Old school is to let them completely dry.  If you do that, you can freeze them.  I spread them out with flour after slicing them and just give them about an hour.

Once I have my sauce rolling, I slowly add the noodles and keep stirring.  Main goal is to not stick to the bottom and to keep the noodles apart.  Not too hard.

Too  much juice isn't too big of a deal as the noodles will continue to soak it up.

Add your venison and veges.

For that perfect color (promise not to tell) add some Kitchen Bouquet.
Almost apple picking time.  I see an apple crisp being made, possibly tomorrow :)

Dinner was yesterday.  Sorry you missed it, but I always have plenty of venison on hand!!!

Apples aren't quite at their peak, but I did manage enough to make some apple crisp today.

This was actually designed for chasing the darn sparrows out of the barn.  I do have some aluminum tubing that is about 8 feet long.  I am going to use that and a small dip net with an aluminum frame.  The prototype isn't sturdy enough to pop the apples free easily.  If I need to, I can put some bolts through the frame going around the net to aid in freeing the apples.

Don't need a full sized net, I am thinking along the lines of one a wader would have attached to their hip while fishing.

Thank you.  The cherry and big bombs have been the best they have ever done for me.  Made a jar full of powder, have a bag chopped in the freezer, ate on them all summer, just gave all of these to my mail lady, and the plants are still loaded.  Biggest pods I have ever gotten off these peppers too.

What is the heat level on the Cherry and Big Bombs?  Did you save any seeds to share from those?

Also, do you spray your apple trees with anything?  I have two trees, and every single apple on them had worm holes, earwigs were inside them, and the wasps were also using the worm holes as an access point!  Had to throw away hundreds!  Very depressing.

BTW, your harvests are amazing, and the frog pic was very cool!

Thanks for the recipe Jeff! Venison is always in the freezer here.

Love the HillBilly apple picker!

Enjoy your Sunday!

Can't save the seeds from them as they are hybrids.  That is why I am contemplating OW the best one of the plants.  Heat level varies on these greatly for some reason.  Much like the Purple Jalapeno peppers vary.  I haven't run into any heat when cooking with them, but when used fresh on a salad they really spice it up nice.

As soon as your leaves drop you want to hit your trees with dormant spray.  Then you want to hit them a couple times in the next year as well.

Bonnie I didn't think of this sooner, but if you'd shoot me your addy I can send you some bombs to sample.  I lost all the addys I had stored in my inbox when it got full and my dumb self just erased them all without thinking of the addies I needed lol.

If I have some nooks and crannies, I can fill them with other pods too.

Nice harvest!

Over 100 lemon drop pods from one plant on just this harvest.  I don't think I will grow these next year as I will have a ton of powder.  It will be sad not growing this pepper as when it is fully loaded it is one sexy bush, but that makes room for one more of another kind that will be just as sexy.

HillBilly apple picker, lol … you should see how we get mangos and avocados, duck tape has a million and one uses ROFL

Super looking apple crisp, dam you’re eating good mon! Kudos sent your way on a very nice harvest, keep dat great work up mon!
