CMPMAN1974's 2011 Growing Log - Started 1/29/11

Well, I finally got motivated and dropped some seeds in my 162 count plug tray this afternoon. Filled up 100 of the spaces. It's always so hard to narrow anything down. I've got the seed tray on a heating mat calibrated to 86 degrees. Sowing so many individual varieties is always one huge chore. I kind of envy people like AJ planting 100 of the same variety.

I sowed a lot of C. chinenses, some wild bird types, and wild praetermissums and a few other wild species. There is nothing very common on this years' list. lol. :) Tons of strange super hot cross attempts from people. At least I've got a solid system now as far as spreadsheets and tracking.

I wish I had acres to grow all I want. I could really get carried away!

I'll start the Annuums and Baccatums in early March. I'm cutting way, way back on Rocotos. I struggled last year to get them to produce (well ripen) on time. I'm not a quitter by any means though. :)

I will be pretty much growing 100% in the ground this season. I don't feel like spending money on soil this year. I built three more 4' x 12' raised beds last Fall to add some growing space. I should be fine.

My personal seed stock for this variety. I see a lot of imitations flying around IMO. I feel this IS the real deal:

Thanks foe the offer Patrick. :) I may take you up on it. I need to respond to your PM. The color is very nice. Much like the 7 Pot Yellow x Chocolate Bhut F2 or F3 cross JungleRain posted the last couple of years!!

I think TS Morouga Satan's Strain is VERY similar to TS Morouga Blend Red & 7 Pot Brain Strain. Probably a made-up name from that seller...nothing new, right? lol.

Chris

Chris I've got lots of seeds for the Madballz, just say the word. It is a very cool color isn't it? Definitely a keeper.

I really like the looks of the Trinidad Scorpion Morouga Satan's Strain.

Those dark pods amaze me! I love how they are dark on the outside and all light/white on the inside. Trips me out. Always impressive.

Matt

Chris your Trini Scorp brown looks more like a true scorpion than any other I've seen grown. How long have you been growing this particular strain?

Wow Chris, what a selection you have there. I'm wondering were you got rezha seeds from?
Have you tasted it? I know the skin is like rawhide, but it is very sweet/hot.

Sorry about forgetting this question Jan.

Unfortunately, my Prik Dae Luang seedling didn't survive this year. As you stated, it was sent as C. baccatum. I'm sure we got it from the same source. He seemed to disappear a while back which is unfortunate as he was a very interesting guy. I enjoyed corresponding with him. With the baccatums, it's easy to ID - greem markings on flower = yes, not = no. :) if I recall, he was a pretty technical guy so I guess I'd need to grow it out to confirm one way or other. I'm not saying you're wrong by any means.

I should have some seeds of Biquinho Iracena to trade. :) Feel free to PM me a list of what you have to trade.

Chris

Insanely nice pics! Congratulations.
But I have a question: As you grow Prik Dae Luang under the category of C. baccatum( I probably know where you got them then, but for some reason I lost contact with that person quite a long time ago), do they come out as baccatums? As mine are rather a ftutescensxchinense cross and also the pictures from Thailand I saw are not baccatum but come out of the annuum/chinense/ frutescens clade....
And just love that variety...
I think I fell in love with the Biquinho Irecena...I do not want to be rude but are their any chances of a little trade?
Best Regards
Jan

I did not taste yet. I definitely will taste the next pod! The skin does look like rawhide. lol. It's hard to get past that. :)

Hi Chris,(NP about forgetting about my question, we are always sometimes busy ;) )
As I found the guy from whom I got the Dae Luang( And yes you are right, he was very interesting, especially with his knowledge about Hydroponics)
reverted his opinion about it as a baccatum at another forum and now thinks it is a C. frutescens... From his original pictures and my specimen of it
I guess It is mostly frutescens/chinense, because it has features of both of them.( It ID always hard to determine varieties with mixed traits of chinense/frutescens, because our understanding about their Phylogenetic Relationship, is at best nebulous)
I think I may write an Article about that matter, And relationship among all other capsicums, too.
Oh and yeah of course I never really thought about it really beeing a baccatum( at least not mine, I was rather afraid I grew the wrong variety), that one is rather easy to ID.
And about youre seedlings dieing, they are really hard to grow, only one of mine survived, and that was pretty close, but once they are big(they tend to grow really tall if you give them enough space) they are very easy.
Hope that was not to much and to hard to read( English is not my mother tongue) :D
Oh and watch out for my PM.
Best Regards
Jan

Another of 915River's awesome looking crosses (Viper) along with Pimenta Chris 'Shadow'. All the Viper pods are gnarly and twisted, unlike the original Chocolate Habalokia with straighter pods. :)

Chris those Avenir pods are crazy! Are they as solid as the AISPES yellow Trini scorps. I've got a couple hanging still that feel like rocks, heavy monsters. You ever put either of them on a scale?

Got to agree with Vladan on the Pimenta Chris "Shadow" pods, they do look cool.

Why do I love the 7 Pot Brain Strain pod look so much. Damn frightening pods!!! This Yellow Bhut is SO unstable. I have 5 plants...none of the pods are the same. This is the plant I like best, but it's not too productive.
