Soup fits one pot meal. That means TB could do chili and you could do soup, but no sammy. Other one pot meals: stews, pepperpot, short ribs, pot roast. Many possibilities!

The definition of a one pot meal is the majority of cooking is low and slow, in a pot. You can sear and saute before, but the meal is all cooked low and slow, all together.

It may be served in a bowl or on a plate, and one non-pot starch is allowed (rice, noodles, potato, or bread). That's it.

Thoughts?

I could go for that. I am not sure I would do a soup though. Maybe, but in my opinion one pot is pretty difficult and wouldn't present very well. Lets take short ribs for an example, you sear and braise. Then just throw them on a plate? No polenta or potatoes? It will still taste pretty amazing, but wont be a complete meal. A soup or stew would be a complete meal, but I love me some freaking sammies!!

I could go for a soup/stew/chili and sammy, or maybe a braise TD? The main component has to be braised (so there is your low and slow), but the other components could be made traditionally so you get a more composed meal?

But you're the boss, and the crowns have the pull. Im just a boot trying to stack the deck... :)

Dude it's called a one pot meal because all the "sides" are in the pot too. Like pot roast, with carrots and potatoes, etc. It can look amazing on a plate.

And I mentioned a starch for plating, like rice, etc.

Hey Ela... do you ship loaves of bread? LOL

Yup I do. Just drop me your addy and what kind of bread would you like. As of next TD...well I would have to bail out of it.Have to get ready for Holidays and ski season will start here soon,so in between my bakery and ski slopes taxi business ( have to take my kids back and forth of slopes) I would not have a time for another TD. Promise I would take a peaks from time to time. ;)

Never mind one pot I can see problems already. What is one pot, why can't I have sides, what if I grill blah blah.

Next!

"To be eaten with chopsticks only" PORK....

Soup (tricky), BBQ (If you know how), Oven, Saute' MicroW. (JT) ?????? Soup, Sushimi roll,

PORK... Chop Sticks.....

No likey soup.
Hmmmm..... you got some 'splaining to do, Lucy! Okay, I've never been a soup fan, until only very recently, but then my experience was rather limited - Campbell's, Progresso.... My mom never made soup unless it was out of a can. Plus, if I did manage to get someone else's home-made soup, it was typically less than filling. Also, most soups I've ever had were WAY too salty. But for whatever reason, I started making soup after joining this site, and (don't take this as bragging) I LOVE MY SOUP! Of course, part of that is because I season it like I like (which is much more heavily seasoned than anyone else's I've ever had, sans the excessive salt), but it's also because I don't make "thin" soups - you WILL be satisfied after eating it.

So all this is really only to satisfy my curiosity - Do you no likey soup because of the same types of reasons I used to not like soup, or something else, and if something else, what???

Edit: Oh yeah, how could I forget..... Another reason I used to not like soup was because of the texture - I find overcooked veggies and stuff very unappealing. So when I make soup, and depending upon the particular veggie, I either a) put it in later, or b) cook it separately and then toss it in at the end. I don't just dump everything in at once and cook it the same amount of time.

Geeme soup

Ok everyone I am just going to throw out another idea..... what about a "Three Course Meal" doesn't matter what the food is but you need an appetizer, main dish and then dessert. Each of which needs the spice element of course. I dunno maybe I am still to much of a noob to say anything.

HH81B no one is too new not to comment. Just don't make the mistake I did by not reading through the past TD's and suggest the things that were shot down prior with 20mm Anti-aircraft weaponry.

I actually like this idea. It would bring up the cost factor so that some may not be inclined to take part but I like it. It would combine a lot of the ideas presented so far.

1st Course could be a Musubi / Amuse-bouche / Soup / etc…

2Nd Course could be any of the great ideas thrown out here One Pot Meal / Edible Bowl / Street Food Vender / Vegetarian meal / etc…

3rd Course Dessert Leaving all sweets open for presentation. Ice cream / Candies / Baked Goods / etc…

Good idea, might even need extra time to allow for the extra cooking though.

one pot meals is exactly like the freakin dutch oven TD we did earlier this year when I was in chicago

boring as shit

I could totally throw down for a soup and sammy TD though, that would be fun

I made minestrone soup, fettuccine alfredo, chicken parmesan, sauteed veggies, bread and a dessert for $5. Don't have to spend $100 for a TD. It just takes a little planning.

Huh,Ann, you're just a minute away from convincing me to jump into new TD despite all my work that is waiting for me during the Holiday Season. I have a big pot of Italian string (pole) beans, I grew them in my garden last summer, with a bunch of veggies, from my garden and a beef simmering since early morning. :) The best meals for me are ones that don’t require robbing a half a store to make them taste good. I'm a fan of simplicity, organic and not factory processed food.

First course something like poppers, soup, salad.
Second course steak, chicken, fish side of potatoes and veggie.
Third dessert ice cream, cakes, cookies.

Things along those lines. Not too over the top. I know cost is a factor since its the holidays and TD's are really just for fun. Like SL said just takes some planning to be on a budget.

Anyway I just think it would be fun to see the different combinations people come up with.

Apples hmm... Yes they are versatile. They work in both savory, and sweet dishes. Plus we have yet to do it as a TD. That one sounds good to me.

Sack lunch...unrefridgerated goodness...shit you take to work.

Or...dressing up boxed meals...like adding shit to mac-n-cheese...or scalloped taters...

We all do it...time to own up to it.
