JCW's 2015 Glog

Well, here's to another year. I wanted to downsize from last year, and ended up practically doubling everything.  Started germinating on Jan 22 using paper towel method.  Tried 2 ways, one in cups with the seeds on top, other the way I have always done with the seeds in paper towel in ziploc.  Both have worked, but the paper towel in ziploc seems faster, maybe better temp control there.  So far have about 55 seeds in dirt after 11 days with many of them already popped up and looking happy.

Almost an embarrassing setup compared to many I see on here, but it worked great 10 years ago, and still worked fine last year so I figure no need to change yet.

Will need another rack of lights this year for the increase in volume I have.

Grow list as of today (updated 3/17 hopefully for the last time).  I tried to keep track of the sources, so hopefully I have given proper credit here.

Well, not much to think about yet none ripe.  Hopefully they will still be there when I get home Saturday, just got reports of some wicked weather about to bear down on my town.  Anyway, I have 3 SB7J plants from 2 different sources.  Some of them look really sick and if not better when I get home may get pulled.  Love the shape of the bishops crown, hope it has a taste to go with it.  Hoping that black stinger grows true.  A lot of the pods now have a stinger, some of them as you can see in the picture are really big.

I feel ya on pulling plants queen Laurie might get pulled
I sowed my amarylla tomatillos this evening hope they germinate they only take 60 days wanted them earlier in the year but bakers creek was sold out

Finally back after being away for 8 days.  Its officially a jungle now, and has all the mosquitoes to go with it.  Not sure how how its doing as well as it is with the rain.  Have been averaging probably close to 5+ inches a week since first of June and no sign of it stopping soon.  Quite a bit of pod drop going on, not sure but probably due to all the moisture, but still more than I can manage hanging on.

Brown Moruga.  My pods are bigger and meaner looking than last year, but the plant is a runt compared to the monster 6footer of last season.  Would rather have this plant with these pods though.

Well, I have been gone for a week.  Just got back about midnight last night.  They are a lot bigger than before I left.  Just wish the rain would quit.  Probably had 1"+ again this morning and was told had two 3" rains last week when I was gone.  Everything is so wet, I can't believe they are still mostly healthy.   Too bad I cant go outside without bathing in deet first now.  Mosquitoes are so bad, if you stop moving they swarm you in seconds.

Some more pics, wish they would just ripen already.

Thanks for the info on the bug.  I haven't tried the Daisy Cutters yet, but patiently waiting.  Not even sure if that one is what they are supposed to look like, but was the biggest and best looking pod I have so far.  They will probably be a few, they were some of my smaller plants at plantout and took a while longer to get going, but seem to be doing good now.  Have 3 of them hoping for a good crop.  So far plants doing mostly pretty well, if we can keep the rain away for a few more weeks would be even better I think.

Your MOA bonnets look much more on point than mine. Looking great, can't wait to see all those loaded with ripe pods. that cleos dragon has a cool shape to it. A very floaty bishops crown shape almost

Yeah, I been wanting to grow that Cleo's Dragon for a while now.  I got it at cross country nurseries.  Hope it turns out good.  Supposed to be a big pod but seems about like a normal habanero size.  Plants are pretty short.
I don't have any good pics of the yellow MOAs yet, but have another red one with totally differnt shape. This pic doesn't do justice to how big this pod really is.  The pods on the plant in the picture below also feel much heavier and thicker walled than the previous picture.  I got some red MOAs in a SFRB from Wicked Mike several months back and they were shaped like the ones in the previous picture.

How was the taste of the moa bonnet, better than goatsweed? Edit Bahamian goat:  I got some of each just starting to get tinge of color to them.

Both MOAs were very good.  I thought the red was a little hotter.  Hoping to have enough to make a few batches of powders and save some to start trying to learn about sauce making this fall/winter.  Not sure that I have actually had a real goats weed yet, maybe next year.  My goats weed plant this year is not true, but looks more like large orange thai at this point, only the plant is much bigger than my large orange thais, would be better in the Growdown with that plant, but still would be way behind.

Oops I meant bahamian goat... all these damn goat names. lol.

Fantastic grow. Loved all the pictures. Congrats on ripe pods. You have a lot of wicked pods. Can't wait to see some of the different colors.

Good luck with the rest of your season.

More like wishing you luck with picking all them pods. LOL!

Thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed.

Understand, so many names hard to keep them straight. I am not very good a describing the nuances of the flavors, but I would say they are just as good as b. Goats. The red moa might have been a touch hotter and the yellow a little more pungent / chinense flavor, but both of them along with Bahamian goats will probably find a permanent home in future gardens.
