JCW's 2015 Glog

Well, here's to another year. I wanted to downsize from last year, and ended up practically doubling everything.  Started germinating on Jan 22 using paper towel method.  Tried 2 ways, one in cups with the seeds on top, other the way I have always done with the seeds in paper towel in ziploc.  Both have worked, but the paper towel in ziploc seems faster, maybe better temp control there.  So far have about 55 seeds in dirt after 11 days with many of them already popped up and looking happy.
 

 
Almost an embarrassing setup compared to many I see on here, but it worked great 10 years ago, and still worked fine last year so I figure no need to change yet.

Will need another rack of lights this year for the increase in volume I have.

Thanks for looking. I have chiropractor on notice for when the big harvests start. This year looks to be more painful. Last year I pulled all the early flowers and plants got huge, 4-5 foot avg. This year I let them be except ones I topped before plantout, now I have some smaller plants I think which was part of the plan but a ton of pods real low, some touching the ground. To take a lot of the pictures I had to lift up the branches just to see them.

Thanks.   I think its mainly the being to wet.  It looks like some end rot, but also in some cases looks like its bugs/worms causing it.  But am seeing quite a bit lately and also more pod drop.  Hopefully it won't be an issue since there's so many pods on most of the plants.  I put quite a bit of bonemeal, limestone to help balance the peat in my mix and gypsum in each hole.  Also the jobes orgainic fert i put in has a high % of calcium.  2 years ago saw a lot of BER especially on the tomatoes.  Last year after trying to put stuff in at plant time saw very little even though it was very wet last year also, this year is even worse.  Going to post up some dead tomato pics later, almost a total loss there, will probably get a few but not looking good at all.

Have a few accidental crosses going that look interesting and possibly promising.  First one was seed purchased as habanero martinique.  Not shaped at all like a hab martinique but more like a primo or reaper or something.  They are smooth though like you would expect from the hab.  I tried a runt pod that ripened, had no seed and no placenta and still seemed hotter than any habanero I have had yet.
 

 

 
This one was seed I save from my reapers last year, so I know one parent is a reaper, unless I messed up a lable or something, but hopefully not.  I did have a reaper that was next to a 7 pot long and a nasty bhut cross of some type so a cross with something like that might account for the bigger size and longer pods here.  Its generally shaped kinda like a bhut but seems a little wider to me.

Roatan Habanero - I think they should be darker, but seems I have some oranges coming out more yellow and some reds more orange this year, either just weirdness or crosses or something, maybe I need to wait a while longer to see if they change.

Thanks.  Just PM me later this fall, if you want happy to send you some of those Roatan seeds.  Probably not isolated but welcome to have some of what I save. Most of my bagged flowers have dropped, maybe I'll try again in a few weeks, got hot so might be contributing to all the blossom drop I have seen in the last week or so.

Thanks, hope they continue.  Seeing quite a bit more rot, bug damage and just drops than normal, but since theres so many on the plants, shouldn't be to big a deal.
 

Hows the billy goat taste?

Billy Goat is pretty good.  Its kinda a habanero taste, but not too hot.  Not hotter than a typical orange hab, maybe a touch milder.  Not many seeds or placenta in it.  Its a solid little pod though real crunchy, kinda average wall thickness but just solid as a rock.  I like that, rather have some crunch than chewy.  Since I don't have the stomach or tolerance to handle superhots, my standard test is a small batch of salsa I make to test them.  Usually take about 5 -10 batches a  week into work for the trials this time of year. Try to put in a different pod in every batch.   The billy goat batch was definitely on the milder side.   It was good sliced on a pork chop sandwich and not too hot at all for that.  Its pretty productive probably at least 100 - 150 pods on the plant, and seems early as they are starting to ripen pretty quick now.   Definitely on the list for consideration in a future grow.
