My first choice would be gas as well due to the awesome level of heat control, but we can't because our kitchen doesn't have proper ventilation (the hood only recirculates through an activated charcoal filter). Induction is actually much faster than gas, though - you can boil a pot of water in less than 2 minutes. And the risk of grease fires is very low compared to gas.
We did a lot of drawing and planning while building the kitchen. I especially like those metal shelves from Ikea - I don't even have to let the pans cool down before stashing them on the shelf

And storing the utensils hanging on the wall hooks saved us two entire drawers of piss-you-off tangled up utensils.
