Flex : trying to import a parcel of fresh seeds into Oz is near impossible unless they're all bagged, labelled & declared properly...& even then some customs guy may be having a bad day & just torch the whole boxful anyway.

Start a new thread in this forum about what seeds you're after, others in Oz can probably help you out.

I've heard getting a large box / mailer of seeds to Australia is nearly impossible. Think about how all those in the U.S. would feel who spent time to contribute.

Hey, you're not the only one in that boat. U.S. members had the same issues when we wanted to get in on the original Pass the Parcel originated by Woody in the EU. It's just not right to risk loss of time, effort, etc. when the odds are clearly against you.

One on one trades are different in my opinion. I'm willing to take chances "most times."

All i did was ask... Your acting like i kicked up a fuss about it... I totally understand.. hence why i didnt push the issue..

Flex...I just read my response 'bout "read the thread from the start"...that was a rather lame response...I just wanted you to know that we had discussed the Au USA connection and it was cost prohibitive...

Really, no offense meant......

I didn't mean any other. Sorry if I came across the wrong way. It's been a LONG week here. I'm sure lots of growers are happy to help in anyway they can. That's what great about this hobby. Somehow, someway, we usually can grow something we're looking for. :)

Good luck with your search. I hope you're season goes well.

Ciao all-

I'm so glad you guys are doing a Round Robin. They can be a lot of fun, both for the givers and the getters. It looks to me (and I'm super new here so please let me know if I'm totally out to lunch) as if there were/are some growing pains with the organization of this parcel. If I can maybe make a wee suggestion for the Fall: since Customs is an issue, and yes, it IS an issue..I've had parcels I've sent to the States never arrive even with filling out the customs sticker correctly, I suggest that each country organize their own Round Robin separately. Also, given that this parcel has taken so long to make it to everyone who wanted to be involved, perhaps setting a limit on the timing of starting it and a cut-off for people to join. I know maybe that sounds harsh, but if the organization part of it happens in the Fall when all of us are doing our seed-saving, it's possible that we may be able to get things going in the post before Christmas. That way all of us will have the seeds well in time to start them (well at least those of us in the Northern Hemisphere..Aussies and Kiwis start upside down and on their heads ).

How does that sound? Don't all throw composted Nagas at me if you hate the idea, it's just some thoughts from someone who's been involved with Round Robins that worked and ones that were major headaches and disappointments.

sounds pretty good Sorellina but I thought that is what we had done...limited it to US and were supposed to get it out pretty quick after we received it....but as you see, the package is no where in sight and didn't leave the USA>....

Ciao AJ-

I didn't read all the posts, but I did scan most of it and I saw that you'd kept the Round Robin to the US. What I was imagining was the possibility of several different threads with a main organizer for each one, representing say Aussie/Kiwi, Caribbean, SE Asia, Europe, Canada, and then of course one for the US. I've also been involved in swaps where just 1 person organizes the whole thing, everyone sends 25 varieties or something to that one person, maybe 5 copies of each variety and gets something like 100 back. There has to be a lot of trust involved with that kind of swap, someone people have traded with in the past and has a good reputation. It takes a lot of organizational skill and someone with the time to sort out all the parcels and go through all the wish lists. I've seen it work and I've also seen it not work (parcels getting mysteriously lost in the post).

These kinds of swaps are notoriously slow, so starting the mailing process as early as possible is really the key thing.

What do you guys think? Overall, have you been happy with this swap? What ideas do you have to help make future ones go smoother?
