To begin with it's a tuff thing to put someone to rest that you've loved . I agree with badger that Wal Mart is a bunch of grand tossers ! But for more reasons than them trying to sell coffins. I think it's stupid and sad that they want to be everything for everything..... I guess the only good thing about is there is "no Pressure" . You like .... buy it or leave it.
When my Mother died it wasn't that way at the funeral home !! Those @ssholes are pros and take no prisoners !! They show you different models of coffins and play games to try and do a bump up thing. I won't go into all that. But the thing that blew my mind was the price they wanted for the room to hold the funeral. They wanted a $1000.00 for a small room for a short , less than hour service. As a musician I've less for for a large hall to hold an event. And we would have the Hall for 8 hours. Because everyone along the way were wank stains I freaked and said I'd give them $500.00 because they didn't already have it booked and still felt I was being jacked !! They took it .....
The first person to set me off was the "Family Lawyer" . He had already been paid to draw up her will. A simple one ........ I'm the only son ..... everything went to me and it was up to me to settle her affairs. He wanted $1,500.00 to file things. When a friend of my told me because it so simple , the will , I could file it with a county judge for $25.00. I had a heavy spin out !! I'm weeping , wailing , and gnashing my teeth and everyone wants to make a dollar off my sorrow.
This may sound like I'm a tight "A" but that's not the case. I think fair wages for a fair amount of is right. No more , no less...
Dang ..... I apologize for going off topic here. Guess I never vented yet and that was 1987 .
Peace,
