Plants are looking great Zander. I've never used grow bags b4. What's your take on them? Are you gonna leave the plants in the 1 gal for the season, or are you gonna move them to something else?

I like bags because they are cheaper than containers, disposable, flexible and can be set up to conserve water if you fold over the top pieces for a mulch. Check them out some time; the 1 gallon and 5 gallon sizes are great in most situations. I'm not keeping them in the 1 gallons for long. After this they will be going into 5/7/15 gallon bags or containers depending on the type and final location.
 
That 7pod stem is amazing!! How old is it??? I am reaaally new to this and was under the impression that these plants are only good for a few sproutings of pods and then they kinda "ran out"?? How long will a pepper plant last if taken care of??

Thanks for the update Zander. Everything continues to look good. I see another person has been overwhelmed with that 7 Pod plant. Do you know what particular type it is? Have you sampled any pods off of it yet?

I thought that was pretty smart of you with the burying of the cardboard in the community plot. Nothing better for the ground than worms.

The 7pod is on it's third season. It's a funny plant and if it didn't get so much attention I would have tossed it. The nodes are way too close together and it sends out shoots from all over. Since it's making so many stems it becomes a ball of green growth and never really cranks out the pods. Plus the dense growth makes a great hiding place for bugs and fungi.

Peppers are perennial and live multiple years outdoors in my frost free zone. Some types are hardier than others like my Manzano and Thai chilies. I bet one could keep a Manzano around for more than 5 years in the right conditions. The flip side is that older plants may harbor disease and pests. That's why a lot of people start new each year.

Thanks for stopping by P. Dreadie, cant wait to see your beds filled up this year. Someday when I have a permanent location I'll be asking you for some build advice. And yeah, I'm very happy with the start to my season. Some of the real stand outs so far have been:

Billy Goat Hab
Bhut Jolokia
Yellow Scorpion
Cumari
Thai #1
and my Green Zebra Tomato

I'm looking at having some ripe pods way ahead of last year. Jalabenero and Thai #1 look like I'll only have 3 more weeks to wait. My Orange Manzano is actually the best of the best, but I didn't count it since it's not new.

Edit: Didn't see Patrick's post. Hey Patrick, you're plants are looking awesome. It that 7pod lives through the year, it will be because of you. If I remember correctly it's a "Jonah". I've only grown that type up until this year. Just like this one, the others I've grown were all ferociously hot and vigorous, but something about the flavor doesn't agree with me. Last year, this was the only one I kept around and when it finally produced they were tastier than the year before. They are good dried and blended w/ other peppers or to spice up some chili con carne. This year, I've got so many other Sevens going so I might find one I like better. It is a cool stem though... Maybe I can graft a Scopion and a Bhut on there and keep it as a Bonchi.

The plant is 2 1/2 years old. I had some production the first year, but I started very early and have a nice long season. This year I'm experimenting w/ smaller containers in an attempt to force earlier production and it seems to be working. Another idea; take clones from your pubes during the season.

Keep these over the winter and plant them out next year. I have a clone from my Orange Manzano and it's covered w/ flower and a few berries already.

Nice set up ZS, just looking at that Orange Manzano makes me want to grow one. Keep us updated on the progress and more pepper porn

These are some pictures from last weekend. So far, so good. The big surprise is how well the plants are doing in promix. I must have had a bad batch last year. Things are a little slow growing right now due to cool temps but I've already harvested some ripe peppers and I've got more on the way.

Thanks for visiting. Pappy, I would love to do beds, but I'll be getting by w/ a drip system in the heat of summer. We don't get that Texas heat either. Thanks SS, the pictures really don't do it justice. Your Pubescens look great too, you'll have a great harvest for sure.

No new pictures today, but things are growing great. All but 20 of my plants are in their final containers and I'm starting to see some ripe berries. So far I ate those two 7pod Jonahs from the overwintered plant. They were a little weak as most of my early ones are. I ended up tossing that plant out yesterday because it was a spider mite house and I'm spray free so far this season. I'm dealing with pests on a few other plants, but just blasting them off with the hose for now.

Sunday I ate my first Jalabenero and it was delicious. It seemed a little early, but still had some heat and a fantastic flavor. I can't wait to make a large harvest and make a batch of salsa. Also, this morning I ate a 7pot that had all the heat I could handle. My goal this year was to have some heat early and I think I'm well on the way. Pretty soon I'll be sampling or harvesting from Thai #1, Criolla Sella, Aji Crystal, Fatalii, Sri Lankan and Orange Manzano. Photo update soon...
 
Hey there everyone. I've got some pictures to post up today. Some are two weeks old and there's been quite a bit of growth since then. Almost everything has been planted in the final locations so now it's just feed, water, harvest and enjoy. Of course I've got to keep any eye out for pests and disease too, but so far things are very very good.

First up, here are some of the plants I moved to my community garden spot. They're doing great compared to what I planted there back in April. It was just too early for the other ones and my soil mix was a bit hot.

Here we have an Orange Hab, PRF 7pod, Yellow Scorpion, Padaung, Trinidad Perfume, and Cumari:

A little overlap here, the Padaung, Trinidad Perfume, and Cumari from above, then a Yellow 7pod and a Burkina Yellow Scotch Bonnet.

Back at home, here's a shot of my neighbor's patio. I'm growing some tomatoes too:

And here's an update from my Mom's garden. The soil mix was a bit hot for the peppers but they're growing fine now. Also had to cut two tomatoes down to the base, but they are recovering nicely.

I installed mini sprinklers; two for each 15gal, one per 7gal container:

What a great thread! Awesome pictures and great looking peppers! I am jealous for sure. Do you mind shooting me a PM on the nutrients you use? Im just getting into pepper growing and love trying things out.
