Me and a co-worker just split a rather large, perfect-looking Bhut Jalokia that I Picked from my garden two days ago (my first of many). Came within a hairs' breath of hurling it back up, it's so damn hot. Christ, those things are deadly. Makes me wonder if So-Cal is Jalokia heaven. Overall...

I agree, the Jalokias look fantastic. Under great growing conditions, all the Caribbean reds could do it shout to the Nagas, "We're not worthy!". Nagas are so much hotter. The only drawback is the Nagas are the slowest ripening chili I've ever grown- twice as slow as anything else.

Amateurs! LOL! Hey, guitar god! How did you Jalokias do this year? My advice to you is get out of L.A.

My Bhuts are in the same condition as yours, and the same level of ripeness. I was only able to hold off because my Fatalis are plenty ripe... and satisfies the urge to destroy my tongue for the time being.

Heck, there's plenty left in this growing season before I think about next year. I have discovered that the Bhuts and Fatalis love the San Diego sun. I'll be growing a lot more of those in the future!

Yes, they're quite slow to ripen. Slower than any pepper out in my garden. The way I figure it, mouth-burning evil takes time.:mouthonfire:

I can get so much of the stuff, I'd love to spread it underneath my "row of doom"(Jalokias, fatali, chocolate habs, etc...). Good idea or big mistake?

I agree. Eat one now while you still have a chance to survive- and say that you ate one. They'll only get worse as the summer proceeds.

Those look great. My first few are about two weeks from picking... with what I consider fantastic growing conditions and 30+ C temps. Could be scary.

Wouldn't you know it- My chocolate hab is my only chile plant without a ring trellis, and the main branch snapped clean off from the weight of all the fruit. I'm not too worried about the remainder of the plant, but I was wondering if the peppers on the broken branch will still ripen if I, say...

Funny that this should come up. I had some ID stakes fall out during shipping and really thought I put them back where they belonged. What I thought was a Bhut looks more like a Trinidad scorpion (not yet ripe). I never ordered THAT. What I was sure was a Fatali looks like a Bhut for the time...

Looks OK to me as well. No plant outdoors is ever perfect. I also use M-g soil. Excellent drainage (which is why I use it), but I supplement it with a little Ironite and fish emulsion. I'm going to have "Bhuts" coming out my ears in a few weeks. Too much H2O? Possibly. My plants did that less...

I've got a funny feeling I'm massacring the pronounciation of "Bih Jolokia". Can anybody spell it out phonetically? It's hard to walk the walk when I can't talk the talk:lol:

My first set of flowers didn't make it. After that, though, it's been "attack of the killer pods". These peppers are going to be coming out of my ears in another month- not a bad thing at all!

LOL! All my plants this year are from them. I could spend a lifetime growing all the different varieties. The only pepper I haven't seen there that I want to grow is the Hungarian Black. More than likely, I just overlooked it. Pepper porn..... drool!

Must be that time of year. I was going to inquire about the very same issue (unassisted pollination rates, drop-off, etc...). Never mind...:D
