sweet plants..

why the mulch on the surface ?
Thanks for the nice words.
In regards ot the mulch, it does a few things. It helps retain moisture, it keeps the soil a bit cooler during the really hot days, and I think it looks nice. Realistically I should have probably waited until June to put it down but I just wanted to be done with it.

The leaves are looking nice and big. Good job.

Thanks...Overall, they still look pretty good but like I said 3 of them got beat up by the sun pretty bad today. Maybe I will take pics of those tomorrow. It is just sad to see the difference in one day. I really thought they would be fine but I guess I was wrong.

Oh I guess I should also say that I have 4 in my raised bed, 5 in 10 gallon Smart Pots(fabric grow bags), and the rest in 5 gallon nursery containers.

Nice looking plants! I like how the mulch makes them look neat and clean. Did you get a chance to pick up a ballast and or hood? I picked up the switchable ballast a hood and 3 bulbs Friday and was very surprised to see that everything was almost new!! I hooked everything up this weekend and the seedlings have grown more in the last 4 days then they had for the entire 2 weeks before adding the MH setup. Now only if I had another empty closet to add more to.

Josh,

Looks like you will have a nice set of peppers this season - good variety. Is the 7 pot the Jonah variety? That's what I'm growing - just wondering....

Keep us posted on the progress - love good photos.......

In terms of the grow light, no I haven't picked anything up as of yet. Probably going to put it off for a while. Just recently spent a lot on soil, etc. plus I will not need it until next season anyway. Glad to hear you got a good deal and the light is working well for you.

Well I am not sure. I originally got a generous donation of seeds from Cmpman1974 and then AJ went above and beyond and sent me a care package of peppers that included the 7 Pod. I saved seeds and am growing both. Today Cmpman's got a bit cooked. I hope it makes it. But anyway back to your question, hopefully AJ and Cmpman can chime in and let us know.

Your plants are looking great Josh. All that hard work has definitely paid off--congrats.

As far as the sunburned ones water them good tonight and I'll bet they look a lot better in the morning. Find something to cover them for a couple of days though, don't want to double up the heat on them. Best of luck to ya.

Thanks for the compliments and advice patrick. I actually put them under a lawn chair so they should be shielded. If they bounce back I will adjust the plants so they are in the area with the most shade. Let's hope the Douglah at least makes it. I have another one planted in my raised bed but there are several people interested in seeds and I sure hope I can come through.

Hey Josh plants do look good the first day you plant out then they take a beating and then recover better than ever. It is a tough couple of week but all will be ok. Your Douglah is a very hardy plant as I've already lost all sunburnt leaves and grew many new ones, from the same seed. Mine has those big light green leaves, very pretty plant. What do you feed your plants, I saw last year habs on another thread? Nice work.

Thanks for the positive reassurance. Last year I just hit them with a bit of MG Tomato food here and there. No real schedule. Only a few times the whole season. This year I am going with Fox Farm's Big Bloom and Grow Big at half the recommended rate. Been doing that every time I water. When I wet down my promix I also mixed in a bit of Espoma's Garden Tone and their Kelp Meal. We will see how things go. The other plants seem to be doing well even with the sun. Some of them were put out Saturday, others Sunday, and the few I had left to do yesterday.

well done Josh...you will be rewarded with fire when harvest comes...

I have started calling the yellow one a yellow 7...it came from Trini and was in with the scorpion seeds, but no tails on any of the peppers...it resembled the 7 more so I have started calling it a yellow 7...doesn't help much does it...

again...well done my friend..

All your plants look perfect Josh. Great color and shape. Very nice work! You're going to have an amazing crop.
