Josh's Pepper Plants '09

Chocolate Habanero

The Inferno, Joe's Long Cayenne, and the Big Jim are yellowed. This was due to a screw up I had when I was potting the plants. When I ran out of pro-mix I tried out a soilless mix recipe. I mixed around 2 and a half batches to finish the rest of the pots. For one of the batches I forgot to add lime. By the time I realized what I had done it was too late and they were placed with the others. These apparently were the plants that got the soil without lime. I assume the soil is a bit too acidic and is causing issues with nutrient uptake. This evening I worked some lime into the top of the mix. Hopefully that helps.

They look great, man! Herbs too.

I've had more aphids this year than in the past 5 combined. Thankfully I've been able to fight them off by and large. Maybe it's the year for them, don't know. Gonna get some ladybugs too. Do you have a good reliable source?

Thanks for the compliments. They are starting to come around. They were getting their butts kicked but are looking better.
I assume you mean an online source for the ladybugs? I am sorry but I can't help with that. I am going to get them from a nursery about 5 minutes away from me. I have no clue how much they cost but I remember seeing them there. Hopefully the pricing isn't outrageous.

Looking great Josh, you have a ton of plants. Your Choc Hab looks identical to mine. Bumpy leaves with a little bit of curl. Those are some awesome peppers.

Very, Very nice, even your yellowed one's look nice...:onfire:

Do you do one plant of each or a few of each verity...?

Thanks for Sharing...

Yea I am excited for a lot of the varieties I have going this year including the Chocolate Hab. It has struggled through sunburn and bug damage, but is starting to bounce back.

Yea I am fairly happy with everything. The Rosemary is growing slow but that is expected.

For the most part I have done one plant per variety. It is my second season growing and I figured I would try a bunch of different varieties as apposed to having multiples of a few varieties. I do however have two Douglahs, two Bhuts, and two 7 Pods. It is a good thing too because a lot of people want Douglah seeds this Fall.

Well done Josh, everything looks great!

Thanks a lot. It can sometimes get a little intimidating seeing some of the big healthy plants that other members grow so it is nice to hear.

The plants are looking good. What are your plans for the superhots this year?

A good portion of the pods will be turned into powder. It is just the easiest way for me to store them. While I can, they will be used in a variety of dishes. I am also excited to be giving a bunch away. Last season I supplied habaneros to two friends from Costa Rica and one of my mom's friends from work. They were absolutely thrilled. I am sure the superhots will be a pleasant surprise.

Very wide variety of healthy beautiful plants. Nice work Josh.

Hey thanks. In terms of variety, I only bought about half. The rest were supplied by the kind folks right here at THP. So thank you all so much. If anyone would like any of the above varieties let me know in the fall. I will be more than happy to send out seeds, unless they are hybrids of coarse. Although if you want to play Russian roulette I would be more than happy to make that possible.

They all look good Josh, seems you got no worries :D

Thanks that is really nice coming from you. Your plants look awesome.

Nice work Josh. They are all healthy looking and ready to start taking off.

That Florida Bird is simply stunning to me. I've never seen a young plant like that take on tree-like properties. I'm not familiar with it - is it really a bird pepper. It seems like it has chinense characteristics. But, anyway, what a beautiful plant.

Nice work!

great looking plants and photos Josh...hope you have a bountiful year...

Thanks my babies are making me proud. If something goes wrong though I blame the schools. And video games...

Yea I sure hope they take off soon. I like when they get to the point where everything is happening at the same time. New leaves are growing, the plant is flowering and setting pods, and pods are ripening.

The Florida Bird is pretty cool so far. It just recently started to fork at the very top. It is also a very dark shade of green. It has survived some high winds but I should probably get around to staking it. I got the seeds from scoville so if he is reading this maybe he can chime in with some info and post a pic of his.

Hey thanks. Me too. Thanks again for the seeds. The Yellow 7 Pod has a fairly thick stem. Certainly thicker than my other plants. I only have one so I was wondering if you have noticed anything like this with yours?

nice looking plants but look on the dry side

That dry look is just the top dressing of mulch to hold in moisture and make them look nice.
It also takes a while to grow new roots and take advantage of all the moisture resources in their new homes.

Time for a bit of an update, but I am going to make some quick posts to get to the next page. I figure that way you only have to wait for new pics to load...
