Well since this forum is about hot peppers I would not want to restrict anyone from using their own. Pop 4 habs in bag at the store it's not like you need a pound. Or use pepper powder (a staple, if going by what I posted).

Staples allowed (if you have to buy them, but them separately):
Milk/Cream
Butter
Eggs
Flour/Corn Starch
Oils
Herbs/Spices
Salt & Pepper
Prepared Condiments

I think this is a good list. I would say that herbs and spices should have to be standard dried, not exotics. For example I keep Tumeric and Saffron in the house but I would not expect to use those for free since they are some what exotic. I would also say standard oils not infused. No basil, truffle, rosemary, garlic...what ever flavored oils.

And I would add fresh, dried, frozen pods to the list. Since this is the hot pepper and they are required to be in the recipe in some way.

I can make an entire meal for 4 or 5 people using only 5 bucks and the spices in my cabinet

ive done it for myself before and ate it for 3 days, you guys all remember the college years right

I am so down for a 5 dollar challenge

best part about here is there are a bunch of farmers markets, where I can literally get a tomato or egg for a quarter

just extend the challenge to monday night instead of sunday, and I will be down like a clown charlie brown

We've gone till monday night before without incident.

In some places in the world, August 8th (Monday) is Christian Feast Day.
I know Wheebz and I, and probably most people here, are looking forward to that day to do $5 cookouts (never tasted Christian before).

Might be nice to extend till Monday night.

.... but maybe allow home grown peppers only? (is anyone in harvest anyway?)
Here in NE Ohio, I'm harvesting annuums only at this point, and just a few. Got a number of chinenses and baccatuums with small pods, others are still just budding or blooming. Pubs are just starting to bloom. So it depends upon what's being grown and when it was started.

ive tasted Christian before when I was in summer camp in 8th grade, tis good :)

was that over the line? nahhhhhh

but yea, having that on Monday would be a significant help

and I think all throwdowns should be friday till monday, because a lot of people work the weekends, and especially working 14 hour shifts its hard to cook something worthy of a throwdown in that time

$5 only? More weirdness in the ether. I make a mac and cheese that costs more than 5 bucks. This throwdown is borderline weird shit-o-meter. Gimme' something more solid like a nacho throwdown or taco's or some such. 5 ingredients? Maybe.

That's why it's a challenge bro! If you ain't down you ain't down. You must be spending too much time at da hippy sto!

TB = Tofu Baron?

 I'm also 66 sheets to the wind.

Hehe speaky o cheap wine I made a huge "pot" o sangrias tonight... wine, lots o brandy, triple sec, honey, oranges, apples, peaches, and prickey pears. Da bomb fa shooo.

naaaaaa close but no cigar.

NO-S**T!!!! I'm with you TB! That's what I meant.... I mean if it's gonna be 5 bucks, do it a gas station, not your local everything-whole-foods-warerhouse! or make it $500 PRESERVED FOOD, so we can buy some and taste it ourselves, anyone else with me? gotta go get more ether.........
