nice PP...the plants look very healthy...

as far as the competition goes...I like the way Potawie said it...more like a comparison than a competition...

Thanks, man!

Yeah, I here ya about the competition thing. It will be great to just be able to compare and contrast results with forum members.

Aji Amarillo - Exploding Growth

My Aji Amarillo is absolutely exploding with growth. I think that I may have started this variety too early as I have two months to go before plant-out and it is already half a foot tall.

I think that I read somewhere that the Aji Amarillo is known as the pepper tree :uggh:. Is this true? How big can they get?

Ok, so far so good.

I have learned a couple things regarding my pepper planting that I will be sure to keep in mind for next year.

1. There is absolutely no need to start Annums or Baccatums 5 months before plant-out. My particular varieties of these species are way too big for my alloted space. This is causing a problem as my space is limited. Next year, I will start these species no sooner than the third week of Feb. for a May 1st plant out (zone 6)

2. No matter how much space you THINK that you will need for the number of peppers that you are growing, you will always need more! Those last minute impulse seed purchases, plants growing faster and bigger than expected, etc. all cause the need for more and more space.

I'm sure that there will be more to add to this list before plant-out but this is what my expereince this year has taught me so far.

Now, some pics of perhaps my favorite variety that I am growing. Can you guess which one it is by looking at the leaves?

If anyone gets tired of me posting pics just let me know.

gotta be pubescens from the hair on the leaves...

and by the way...i never get tire of the pics....

Aji Amarillo....get ready for at least 6'...more if you give it some support....I didn't support mine last year other than staking the main stalk and proping up the side limbs.....and it got about 5 1/2'...was a very late season producer for me...matter of fact, there were still about 50 pods on it that were all green the first of December...

Yeah, I get tired of looking at the pictures. J/K. The only reason is that all you guys have pictures that make me ashamed of my plants, at least the peppers.

Yours look great and keep on posting!

Mike

Your plants are rockin' Petey, excellent work. Don't stop posting pics on my account, I love looking at pepper plants.

I've got a couple of the Trini Scorpion Morouga seeds from Beth planted and I think AJ is growing some too. I'll send you a couple of pods to try.

Ha! Yeah, and if you hang out around here and succumb to the "PLANT EARLY! PLANT EARLY! vibe, it can be even worse.

Yeah, pubescens...hair leaves are a dead giveaway. Rocoto reds that I received in a trade with pepperfever. Lovely plants.

Thanks for filling me in on the growth pattern of Aji Amarillo. Gonna put that one in a seven gallon pot and maybe cage it.

It is snowing pretty hard here right now and the forecast is calling for a foot before it is all over. Spring and harvesting peppers seems a mile away right now. Sooooo...what a better thing to do than take some pics of me peps!

yup...that could have had a lot to do with it...but the plant grew very healthy tho...I am afraid if I had it in the sun I would have had to have a ladder to pick the peppers....my red chicken heart that grew next to it loved the shade and produced tons...

Hey Petey,

Tha plants are looking wonderful...excited for you, I hope you post some pics of the Aji when it gets big outside, I have thought of trying those also... excellent job!..

Ya man, thanks for the kind words. My sole Amarillo is growing like a beanstalk. No Lie...I'm scared to think of how tall this plant is going to grow once it gets out under the great metal halide in the sky.

My Naga's have had a nice growth spurt since I last posted them a month ago...

Only set back so far has been some brown spots on the leaves of two of my plants (Not Nagas). At first I thought that it was disaster, TMV. I now think that it was slight nute burn from my fert solution that inadvertently got on the leaves. Got my fingers crossed on this one as I'd hate to lose my pepper crop.
