Sunday morning pepper porn before a freak cold front. The plants in the last photo have the leaf damage, all others are fine. Those peppers were in the middle of the yard but when I look up they are partly under the canopy of a big Bradford Pear tree. The leaves of the tree splashed down the rain harder in certain pots and hurt my Cumari and Orange Habs. Leason learned where not to place containers. I'm gonna start moving all these containers to the garage if this cold front really pans out the way they say. Snow storms predicted just north of here in Asheville NC. 77F right now.

Just finished watering some of my 5 gallon containers. Man, that Pro-Mix sucks up a serious amount of water! Those bad boys get heavy. Quite the army you have there Cappy, I wonder how many pounds of pods you'll get this year?

glad you are getting ready for this front Cappy...I did the same today...suppose to be 38 in the morning here and then 35 Tuesday morning...the plants in the greenhouse are at a comfortable 60F right now and all the plants I took to sell this weekend are in the growrage...

hoping this will be the last cold spell for the season but I have to remember, we have had snow flurries two out of the last three years on easter...

The artic express has come and gone, moved all plants in the garage low of 38F last night. Weather looks great on the horizon. Arranged all the containers in a triangle around a tree with only one way in to service the inner plants. About 40 varieties of mostly C. Chinense and a few C. Baccatums. When they dry out they will be getting a healthy dose of some balanced hydro nutes. Will cull a few as I have some nice back-ups. My comparison Fatalli are along the bottom in the second pic.:)

Not a good day in that I have decided after looking at my plants that all will be repotted. Due to the unforunate huge amounts of rain my plants are water logged. I also noticed that my back-ups potted with this peat from the same company that makes pro-mix and Black Kow are growing much better. I got these 3.8 cu/ft bales at Lowes for just under 10 dollars a piece. Lots and lots of work but early enough to hopefully get things right.:(

I love Lowes. Home Depot just doesn't do it for me anymore. Everytime I go to Home Depot, not only is their selection pure shit, their staff has got to be some of the most cluless people I've ever seen...lol

Seriously, If someone at the HD doesn't know about something, they will just say " Oh, we don't have that"...after laughing at them for ten minutes, I'll always return to that same person with the item and advise them to learn their inventory a lil better.

Good stuff here PRF! I LOVE Black Cow...that stuff is my lover. Also try some stuff called "Erth Food" - stinks to high heaven because of the biosoilids but JEESE, it can grow some monster veggies!

Man, that sucks Cappy. I feel sorry for you, but it might end up being a great experiment in the end. Especially if you can dry out a few Pro-Mix containers and keep them going for comparison. My early plant outs are on the opposite extreme, all suffering from sun scald to one degree or another. I need to lengthen my hardening process I guess.

There really isn't anything wrong with what I'm using right now except too much rain. I did put some Black Kow in with some back-up plants and they look great. Just going to replant with some Black Kow and some new peat mixed with the saturated pro-mix. One step back two steps forward. Still very young plants that shouldn't set them back for to long.

Great looking army of peppers, reminds me of a game called RISK,all the armies at the border!Mine were flooded last week also but in the end after they dried I'm thinking it didn't hurt.

Well I have done 30 or so. I'm using a small pitchfork garden tool and all are easy to get out, the root ball has only grown a little. Just resetting my plants and getting everything just right. Hopefully it won't rain another 10 inches in the next week.

Sorry to hear about all the extra work. Not possible to let them dry out on their own?

Are they that wet or are you looking for an excuse to add the peat? ;) I can see myself doing the same thing.

Best of luck to you Cappy.

I based it on the health and growth of my back-ups that got the same mix when pro-mix went up in price. I like the growth better and I have some big terra-cotta pots to fill so why not dry the containers, mix in some black cow and new peat. The leaves were turning a light green from all the water and I had to do something. There was more settling in the original mix than I cared for. Just thankful I can fix the problem now before they got any bigger.

Definitely some nice looking plants PRF, how much is the Pro-Mix by you? I just bought 4 bales at 32 bucks a pop. Does the stuff from Lowes have anything in it or does it need to have perlite added.

This stuff from Lowes is straight peat so yes it does need perlite mixed in, but is a quarter of the price of Pro-mix. Pro-mix is now 36 dollar a bale here so I'm using this in my containers to help freshen up my mix. We'll see.
