Coming from 2014 http://thehotpepper.com/topic/45973-justaguys-2014-garden-season So here we go with 2015. I never went for that new job because this job has changed in good ways. Last August Amy was in an accident when a young kid pulled out in front of her truck. The insurance company totaled her truck and the kids car was totaled on impact. He came out of it with a fine and she had a bad whiplash that blew the disc between C5 and C6. Monday she goes under the knife to have them fused. Had the disc gone out her stubborn self would deal with pain, but it is pressing right on her spinal cord so surgery is needed. Now on to the start of the 2015 season. On January 5th I put seeds in the germination tray And this morning we woke up at...
Ayy ladies and germs.   I'm trying out the Mars Hydro 300W LED grow lights, and to see how they stack up against my HPS I am growing them apart from the bunch while the HPS goes to work. I can't afford to keep running it, as the days are getting hotter and hotter and making it difficult to dissipate the heat. If the LED system works and keeps the suckers growing I will merge them over completely.   Here are the test plants, between 12-16" from the light (recommended).             I'll be testing for a week or two to see if there are any adverse effects. If not, the operation is going LED full time!

So I have been putting off starting this blog for far too long!  So I was recently added to the Community Garden, and was even fortunate enough to grab 2 full plots!!!  This is on top of the containers I have going on my front porch, and I am super pumped!!!  So far I am running somewhat behind on getting my peppers started, so I might end up purchasing (oh no!) some nursery peppers, at the recommendation from TXCG!  Fair warning our plots are side by side, so chances are you will see us back and forth quite a bit on the same subjects!     So without further delay, Here is a photo dump of everything that has happened these last few months!  I will post updated pictures this weekend of how everything looks right now! Habanero, second...
Hi All! It's been an incredibly busy winter dealing with one thing and another, and it's only about half over here.  Still, it's time to get on the stick and put my seeds in the dirt in preparation for plant-out in another 12 weeks or so. I have a Manzano over-wintering inside that's going on its third year. It's next to a sliding glass door with a great southern exposure but the light it gets here this time of year is pretty paltry... I expect it'll start to perk up sometime in March. I have a couple of MoA Scotch Bonnets over-wintering at a friend's house because there wasn't space in front of the sliding glass door for them and my wife's indoor plants... the deal is that if they both survive the winter, we'll split the...
Hey everyone, I am a noob at this, I was basically having a go to see if I can get some seeds to shoot. It's very late in the season here so I thought I'd see if I can get my technique right in preparation for next summer. 2 Dorset Nagas and 2 Birdseyes. 15 days in and 2 Dorset Nagas have shot, but one broke in half unfortunately. The 2nd one is alive and well. Can I put it in a bigger pot and place it outside immediately? It's in a jiffy pod. Knowing Melbourne we still have 2 months of 30 degree weather so I'll see what happens. I'll add some photos when I'm on my computer. Cheers
State of the Garden Address (2015 / 2016) In 2015 I decided to experiment with a bunch of new peppers I’d never tried before.  Some I liked and some I won’t be growing again.  About half the plants I grew were staple ones that I grow every year.  Here is a breakdown of my thoughts on each from last year.   Staples MOA - had great success this year and really like the flavor and shape of this pepper Caribbean Red Habanero - good yields, great flavor. Yellow Fatalii - my 4th year growing fatalii. Its my hot sauce workhorse pepper Aji Lemon - another staple pepper. 3rd year growing it Congo Trinidad - 3rd year growing this one. Love that Trinidad flavor. Trinidad Scotch Bonnet - 3rd year growing this one. Huge, huge pods! First Time -...
I am fascinated about the "Scotch Bonnet" Continuing in the same vein as my last season where I managed to grow over thirty varieties I am again keen to promote the "Scotch Bonnet" in all it's varieties and variations ... this season some new specimens to me and some old firm favourites such as SB7J and P. Dreadie ... a big thank you to those on this forum that have helped me in sourcing seed Elysium Oxide - Mustard (SB Faria x Douglah natural colour variation) - Meatfreak Elysium Oxide - Rust - Greg PIC1 SB x Trinidad 7pot - Superhot Sim ScotchBrain F3 (SB Yellow x Yellow 7 Pot Brainstrain) - Greg NeBru7 (Trinidad Yellow x 7 Pot Jonah) SB7J Grass Hut variation SB7J Atomic Mushroom variation SB Atomic - Snagglepuss NagaBon -...
My Jamaican yellow has grown a Pepper, first this year , Problem is theirs a bug war going on on that plant, the aphids are being converted but the battle filed is bloody. Thinking of giving him a wash but dont want to get rid of those wasps that are killing the Aphids.
Hello!   I'm new on this forum, so please do not judge me harshly. I am from Russia, Kuban region, Krasnodar City (Olympic Games in Sochi in 2015 remember? From Sochi to Krasnodar 182 miles). Since English is not my native language, I will communicate with you through an interpreter, so please turn a blind eye to various shortcomings.   Peppers started in 2015, there were a few bushes of local peppers, the names of which you probably will not say anything, the only thing I can say they were Capsicum Annuum, as well as a bush Bhut Jolokia Pumpy.   In the new 2016, I swung at more interesting varieties not typical for my country. Here is a list of peppers, which I have chosen: Cheiro Roxa Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Brown Black Naga Carolina...
Yes, it is right, 2017.  Why 2017? Because I want to be the first to start the 2017 glog! Any prize??? Joking! :)   In fact I want to have an earlier start, and try to cut back my grow. To work a bit to my addiction. Probably 2016 will be the same as 2014 and 2015, with a large (TOO LARGE) variety of peppers on a too small garden. Which also means mostly only 1 or 2 plants per variety. Sometime that one plant produce only few pods. Which means can't do much with them, and not many seeds. Can't enjoy in those peppers, can't share seeds. Can't make powder out of 2 pods. So, the idea is to add a variety only if I can find a strong reason to grow it. Reasons like "why not?" or "let's try this too" are no more allowed. I hope to grow less...
Mnemosynesis 2016   Hello everyone, I’m back again this year after a failed attempt at maintaining a log last season. Between work, camping, and growing I had a hard time maintaining my log and remembering to do so. I hope to change that this year.   I’ve made numerous changes to my setup this season. I’ve ditched the CFL cage I had last year, and instead opted to go with a 4 bulb T8 system mounted to the ceiling with adjustable chains. I was able to sell my CFL bulbs and such to a friend that I got into growing, and it was able to completely subsidize the T8 setup which was surprisingly cheap.   After growing hot peppers for the first time last year I realized that my palate can’t necessarily handle the heat of the super hots quite...
Hello everyone!  This will be my first grow log ever!   I caught the bug last year and ended up with just shy of 200 plants covering 35 or so varieties.  This year I am hoping to get 225-240 plants covering 70-75 different varieties.  I will be growing 60 plants in grow bags and the rest will be in raised rows.  Seeds will be started this weekend.  Here is my grow list for 2016:     Trinidad Douglah Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Chocolate Trinidad 7 Pod Brain Strain Caramel 7 Pod (PL) Trinidad 7 Pod Primo Trinidad 7 pod Jonah 7 Pot Barrackpore 7 Pot Rennie Brown 7 Pot Barrackpore Chocolate 7 Pot Burgundy 7 Pot Bubble...
I figure since it's producing, might as well post about it. This is my 3yo Hot Paper Lantern. Last year it exploded with peppers but this year there was nothing, until about a month ago. I was going to Winter it again but noticed it had flower buds, so I got a grow lamp and brought it into work. This is the results. The larger peppers are growing about 4 to 5mm per day.
I wanted to start a separate Glog just for this project. Sorry Jamie, not photos yet....   I love wild Capsicum species, but C.eximium is one of my favorites. For 2014 I wanted to find as many C.eximium as I could and grow them all out.   My hope is to examine the flowers in detail, using a dissecting microscope. It is possible that I may also be able to get some DNA sequencing done, but that is not certain for now.   Here`s the list of what seeds I have so far.    CAP 500 CAP 1491 CAP 1530 CGN 19198 CGN 21502 CGN 24332 (not buforum) C.eximium from the UK (maybe CAP 500 or CGN 21502???) C.eximium (www.semillas.de) C.eximium from Bolivia (Tarija region) C.eximium from Bolivia #2 (La Paz region)   The only one I don`t have that is...
A bit of background ....   It all started back in 2014 when one of the kids bought me a Cayenne pepper plant, had a nice lot of peppers that year and i was hooked on growing a few more.   2015 Cayenne and Tabasco seeds were sown and had a few plants but very few pods, I thought (and not alone) how hard can this be?   I am no strange to growing things with a 5 acre farm, 40 foot poly-tunnel, 14x6 foot greenhouse and numerous raised beds  in Wales only thing holding me back is the weather.    So the end of 2015 A new grow tent was bought and this is were it starts.   I found this forum and did a lot of looking and reading to find i could over winter plants, I had a couple of Tabasco plants that i could experiment with.... This is about a...
http://imgur.com/a/IjkNy I've been growing this Bhut Jolokia for 3 months, been a very slow process. But over the past month it's just stopped growing. I don't know if I have to prune it or something but it's not producing pods it just stopped growing. I'm worried because Bhut jolokias are one of my favourite chillies and I do not want it to be a little healthy plant that doesn't grow for the rest of its life.
Back again for another year. All intentions of scaling down, have been thrown out the window!!    I am growing more annuum and less chinense though.  :P    Chinense Oxkutzcabian orange/Chichen Itza (not sure which one I'll grow. Welcome to PeriPeri's Grow 13/14/15/2016: South Africa   If you would like to see the 2012/2013 Grow, you can see it Here First a little info about our country: South Africa is situated at the very southern tip of the African continent. Our country ranges a divers spectrum of cultures and religions and of course habitats. Our country is flanked by the Atlantic on the SW coast line and the Indian Ocean on the NE coast line. Our diverse habitats range from tropical to sub saharan and even desert up north. One thing is for sure, the high summer temperatures and generally mild winter temperatures mean that our country does offer a great opportunity to grow chillies (among other things). To those who are not familiar with our country...

I've been pretty much in awe of what folks achieve over here on THP. What I'd give to have the skill and the climate you guys have! Well, finally I'm sticking my neck out and starting a growlog myself. Great to participate!   I have 3 very different growing areas, 1 inside, 2 in greenhouses. I'll describe them better as time goes on. I have so many, too many varieties for the space that I have. However quite a few are for stem fusing and grafting trials, others for close trimmed "bonchi" projects.   This isn't the full list but most.   Regular grow Aji Panca Bell of Gollu Brown Egg CGN21500 Cheiro Roxa Chichen Itza Murupi Doce PI595908 Tehrani Tuccurique Yellow Guajillo Congo Trinidad Naga Jolokia PC1 Peruvian Purple Dedo De Mocha...
What's up, pepper people?   I've been meaning to do this for ages. Here's the updated grow list for this season, including everything from seeds that haven't sprouted yet to fully mature plants. For some varieties I have only a single plant, for others I have thirty or forty. I'm sure I've left a few out, as well.   The stuff I'm intending to sell is either in 4" or one gallon; the stuff I'm going to be growing for production or cloning will be in nothing smaller than 5 gallon; I'm aiming for 15 gal and higher.   My germination mix is currently four parts coco coir, two parts Black Kow, one part perlite. So far, this has worked really well for me. My germination mix is now just coco coir and perlite, in a roughly 50/50 mix.    My grow...
Tried growing last year but it was pretty disastrous, I think I had numerous deficiencies as well as bacterial spot, possibly mites, and a bunch of other problems.  I didn't take a particularly methodical approach and didn't document anything so this time I'm going to try and take pics on a regular basis and pay attention to what's going on.   This year I'm looking at: Fatalii Grenada Seasoning Sugar Rush (an Aji I think?) Aji lemon drop Congo Black Mulato Isleno Aleppo Pasilla Shishito Started germination on 12/28 using paper towels in baggies with water and a tiny bit of 3% peroxide.   Only saw a couple tails on the Sugar Rush but went ahead and transferred all of them (today 1/9) to a 72-cell flat with peat/vermiculite/perlite mix...

Let's Start   Osmopriming       Scottexbox       Preparation of the pots: two small glass one in an other, the internal punched and with perlite on the bottom     Preparation of the mixture: soli and 20% perlite     Seedlings       Babies getting stronger       Some macros             Time to be transplanted       The long way to the top... aka some experiments       Same mix with perlite 20% added. I prefer while transplanting to insert a copy of the previous pot in the soil as a plate to help the process. Then I let the water with radicant added strain down the board and I put some michorrizal fungi on bottom.       Little by little...       Think Pink       Time for a second Transplant: same process.           A...
Well last year I grew a bunch of seedlings from one of my Reaper pods. To start it was a funky reaper with odd shaped pods. Anyhow out of that batch 3 of the plants produced brown ,very hot peppers. The appearance were all over the map even on a single plant. Some looked Moruga-ish, others longer , some reaperish...     I overwintered the planted and got one single pepper to fruition. From that I grew two second generation plants. Below are a pic of the two plants grown from the pepper that I grew in isolation and a pod growing on one of them. Soon I will know if they retained their chocolate color! Unlike some peppers that seem to give uniform pod shapes none of these seem to whether first or second generation. Slight variations abound...
This ladies and gentlemen will be my second year growing peppers. A big shoutout to my friends that have helped me on this journey. Mike, Jojo, Rocketman, Spork, Hogleg, Sicman, SORRY IF I FORGET TO MENTION YOU. These folks and the entire THP community has made me what I am in the pepper world. I have grown 20+ plants on a small appartment balcony and had decent success. My list for 2015 is still up in the air right now, but soon to be. Trying to talk the wife into letting me start the seeds inside before Christmas. Tentitive thoughts about grow list: Purple jalapeno Reaper Ghost Aji pineapple Star fish LemondropXtepin Gonna try to get seeds planted soon. Stay tuned. This year I'm going as big as I can with the pots. My best...
I did start my Pepper plants in 2014, but in honor of the New Year, it is time for a new album.  To start off the 2015 Chile Pepper grow log, I bring you the first Brazilian Ghost pod of the season.  This is not a great picture, as it is hard to focus on something small in the middle of the canopy.

I know I got a late start, but living in Florida I'm hoping that wont be too big of a deal (although the heat and rain kind of scares me).   Transplanted my little germinated seeds today, the root length was 1/2"-1" in some so I decided it was a good idea to transplant them today. I'm using Solo cups with 3 holes drilled into the bottom in a triangle formation. Planned on just doing 3 plants but we see how that turned out. Didn't have enough cups for all the germinated seeds so just going to let the extras grow some more before giving them away. The trench the cups are in has a nice incline to help drain off extra water to prevent the soil from staying too wet.
Hello Everyone! I'm finally getting around to posting my first ever Glog and I'm pretty excited about it  .  As this was my first year growing, I decided to try my hand at growing one to a few different varieties of peppers and then seeing which ones I like so that I can grow more of that kind the following year (as well as throwing in some new varieties I haven’t tried). The majority of my plants were grown using pepperlover.com seeds.  The service was amazing and I would absolutely recommend anyone to use their seeds for your grow.  They will be who I use next year.  I originally had purchased some from pepperjoes but the only pepper really to sprout was the purple jalapeños.  However, they are much further along than my other...
My first little set up. I have a heat mat below set at 79*F. Just put the seed in there yesterday so I'm hoping it germinates. I used miracle grow potting mix and keep it moist and the greenhouse effect. Ive never grown anything and i really want to start this off right so please let me know if i am doing anything wrong!
hi   so im starting this glog a bit late most of the plants have already germinated.   im growing all of them in my room in paris, and as most of you know the rent is really high so i dont have as much space as id like :(   i have 2 separate grow spaces, one is a small 50*50*90 cm box, with 125w 6400k cfl light, which is plenty sufficient. in this growbox im growing only in soil and organic, im more of a hydro guy but they get really too big, plus ive never, ever grew in soil in my whole life so i thought it would be fun to try something different.   im using biobizz all mix which works great, and most of biobizz organic ferts, bio-grow, bio-bloom, and topmax which i use maybe every other watering. i alos use plagron pure zym and canna...
