Start a Grow Log for your growing season.
After getting bitten by the hot pepper bug last summer I have decided to expand my grow from jalapenos and habaneros to some real deal hot peppers. The biggest problem I am facing is that our garden will have a full suite of tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, and squash all fighting for space (more on how that will be resolved later). For starters I am going to let everyone analyze my grow list and provide suggestions for what other varieties I should try. I'd like to add in one or two frutescens just to keep things rounded out. Any ideas of what I should try?   The 2016 Grow List   Annuums: Aji Peruvian Tomato Pepper Bob's Pickling (pepperlover freebie, I'm not sure what it is, but I guess I will be pickling it) Hot Salsa Cracked Jalapeno  ...
Noob Peppers
Hi guys I'm from Brazil and I love, love peppers, I started my glog with some types among them:   Bhut Jolokias red and chocolat TSM yellow and chocolat Arriba Saia Rosa Arriba Saia Vermelha Cayenne   I have great difficulty because the weather here does not really help, it rains a lot and barely shines, so the poor things grow slowly, but sprouting and growing healthy, but enough talk and let's go to the pictures             Now on the ground =P
GA Growhead's - something special this way grows
Welcome to the not so much of a glog, glog. This is really just more of peak into my garden. This season... Long story short, I'm still dealing with back problems, so my beginning of the season wasn't the best. I got hit hard with aphids. Couldn't pot up quick enough and lost a ton of plants/varieties that got no light/air under the bigger plants. Finally got some ladybugs and got the aphids under control. The whole ladybug experience inside was interesting. I will just say that, but they did there job. I never even made a grow list. That's an example of how this season was started. I just planted what I wanted to, over the course of a few nights. The germination went into two classes... what I wanted to grow, which included the...
Indoor LED reapers/habs/ghost
I started a small LED set up a whilre ago and havn't posted since. I introduced my set up a little in this post, http://thehotpepper.com/topic/58892-small-led-build/ .   Here's a little update. I'd received my seeds on Feb. 1/2 and planted them right away. What didn't occur to me is that I was going away feb 6-13. So I watered them heavily before I left and hoped for the best. When I got back I was happy to see that the reapers, habs, and one of the ghosts had sprouted nicely.      what I wasn't happy to see was that the fatalliis were doing terrible. Of the 6 fatalliis planted only 1 came up at all (on the 16th) and it had a seed stuck to the top that would end up killing it.     I later decided this was a result of my vacation and...

After much deliberation, I have sowed seeds for my 2016 grow. Though I usually over do it, last year I only grew one variety, rooster Spurs sent to me from everyone's favorite guru. I decided to only use one 72 cell seed starter. Seeds in 2/20/16: 18 x devil's brain 18 x bih jolokia 6 x rocoto montufar 6 x birgit's locoto 12 x aji limon (Peruvian yellow) 12 x queen Laurie
First Grow, Low Budget Chilli Grow
Well a little about me : http://thehotpepper.com/topic/58566-greetings-from-sunny-durban-south-africa/   And now the Rules/ Constraints:   1) I want to keep it as low cost as possible - initially. I want to at least make sure I can grow the plants and have fun before I start sinking big bucks into it. 2) I am growing the easy to acquire, cheap peppers first. I want to experiment. 3) I am growing them in an area where there is a lot of wind, a lot of sun and little rain.      3.1) As such I have created a "shelter" for them made of some excess things I had lying around in the garage.     The White Table on its side and the old dog basket are removable to allow as much light in as possible. The Grass is terribly dry at this time but It...
rjacobs 2016 GLOG
Figured I would start up a GLOG as this will be my first big year.  Last year all I did was Carolina Reaper and got 9 plants out of 10 seeds.  They took forever to germinate.  Started 5 in paper towel/zip lock bag.  Nothing happened after 2-3 weeks so moved them into hydro seed starter.  Also put 5 into jiffy pellets in a seed starter.  Those germinated pretty quickly and eventually the seeds in the hydro seed starter germinated.    All 9 of those plants are still alive although my 4 are the biggest.  My buddy has 4 and his got mites and he had to trim them to nothing and bomb them with neem, but they are coming back.  My other buddy has 1 and he has struggled with it and he grows a lot of Hab's so he knows how to grow peppers.   This...
I've been away from the forum for some quite some time. Over the last 2.5 years I've been blessed with a son, have had to move to 2 different cities and transfer jobs twice. I really didn't have time or room to grow anything let alone focus on peppers. Now that I'm settled in and have a few extra $ on hand, I've been able to invest in a 180w UV Blackstar LED and have started growing in Coco. Why coco? I've grown in soil before and had decent results. The problem was that my growing season is around 90 days. We don't get the heat or sun needed to grow super hots to their full potential. On top of this soil needs fairly large pots for the plants to really produce a large plant, but again we don't get the heat needed to let the pot dry...
Federico 2016 - My first experience
Hello everybody, my first experience started few weeks ago (3rd of December 2015) with 3 seeds of C. chinense Bih Jolokia #1 Assam 2 seeds of Rocoto Esquilino (this name is because I bought some pods at the market called Esquilino here in Rome, C. pubescens) and 2 seeds of C. flexuosum The 3rd of January I put more seeds: 2 x CGN 21500 (C. Chinense) 2 x PI 555634 (C. frutescens) 2 x PI 260567 (C. baccatum) 2 x Dwar Chiltepin (C. annuum var glabriusculum) 2 x PI 593491 (C. annuum var glabriusculum) 2 x Pimenta da Neyde (C. chinense) 2 x Yellow Rocoto (C. pubescens) 2 x Jay's peach ghost scorpion (C. chinense) 2 x Cap 214 (C. baccatum var baccatum) 2 x C. Crockdoc's first glog
Hey there everybody! So I got stung by the chile bug and this is my first time growing. I finally figured out how to link pics and have a bunch in order starting from about Jan 1st 2016 up until today. I'll try to update weekly or so. I started a 72 cell seed tray with seeds from pepper joes:Thai sun hot, Black jalapeno, Jalapeno early, Firecracker, Joes long(whippets tail), Prik chi faa, Cayenne blend, Santa fe grande, Mammoth(jumbo) jalapeno, Fresno, Brazilian(atomic) starfish, and Kung Pao. I also planted purple jalapenos and Tabasco which didn't sprout. While waiting for those to sprout, I snagged an orange hab from home depot, and a trinidad scorpion and datil from the local garden store. I kept everything under my 300watt...
Umbra's 2016 GLog: 0 to 100 Real Quick
I recently signed up here because I had one Bhut plant I was trying to keep alive over the winter.  Fast forward a few weeks and now I'm in the process of growing ten varieties and possibly up to 72 plants in my bedroom. What could possibly go wrong?   This whole thing started with the one plant I'd managed to keep alive through the summer. I didn't provide it with nearly enough sunlight until too late in the season. By the time it was producing peppers it was already going into the fall. There was one orange pepper, so I cut everything but that branch down, stuck it in a pot and brought it in. Months later I realize the pepper is going bad, so I make a thread:  ...
GNSLNGR 2013,14, and 1 to grow on 2015!,..Just some pics of another on the go "grow"
The grow begins....pictureless. Because everyone should be able to "minds eye" a picture of dirt. Dirt on the road..... in the back of an FJ for afew days -parking managed by sun light availability.3 days later 1 65 watt halogen to keep em warm. On the tenth day(10 days after germ beganso closer to 2 weeks), I head back to the ranch-metaphorically thinking...or typing-whatever;)! Over watered, because got over dry, sink or swim kids.....if you make it, you will rule! At this point , they're being fed with 2 strip flourescents and a 90 watt grolight. One cat thought , awesome, it is warm, the humans fuss over this spot, so I will sleep here.I gently extricate cat, for it knows not what it does. I assume waking up in the air will get my...
Justaguy's 2015 Garden Season
Coming from 2014 http://thehotpepper.com/topic/45973-justaguys-2014-garden-season So here we go with 2015. I never went for that new job because this job has changed in good ways. Last August Amy was in an accident when a young kid pulled out in front of her truck. The insurance company totaled her truck and the kids car was totaled on impact. He came out of it with a fine and she had a bad whiplash that blew the disc between C5 and C6. Monday she goes under the knife to have them fused. Had the disc gone out her stubborn self would deal with pain, but it is pressing right on her spinal cord so surgery is needed. Now on to the start of the 2015 season. On January 5th I put seeds in the germination tray And this morning we woke up at...
Coup's LED Light Test
Ayy ladies and germs.   I'm trying out the Mars Hydro 300W LED grow lights, and to see how they stack up against my HPS I am growing them apart from the bunch while the HPS goes to work. I can't afford to keep running it, as the days are getting hotter and hotter and making it difficult to dissipate the heat. If the LED system works and keeps the suckers growing I will merge them over completely.   Here are the test plants, between 12-16" from the light (recommended).             I'll be testing for a week or two to see if there are any adverse effects. If not, the operation is going LED full time!

Gothic's 2016 Grow log
So I have been putting off starting this blog for far too long!  So I was recently added to the Community Garden, and was even fortunate enough to grab 2 full plots!!!  This is on top of the containers I have going on my front porch, and I am super pumped!!!  So far I am running somewhat behind on getting my peppers started, so I might end up purchasing (oh no!) some nursery peppers, at the recommendation from TXCG!  Fair warning our plots are side by side, so chances are you will see us back and forth quite a bit on the same subjects!     So without further delay, Here is a photo dump of everything that has happened these last few months!  I will post updated pictures this weekend of how everything looks right now! Habanero, second...
Hi All! It's been an incredibly busy winter dealing with one thing and another, and it's only about half over here.  Still, it's time to get on the stick and put my seeds in the dirt in preparation for plant-out in another 12 weeks or so. I have a Manzano over-wintering inside that's going on its third year. It's next to a sliding glass door with a great southern exposure but the light it gets here this time of year is pretty paltry... I expect it'll start to perk up sometime in March. I have a couple of MoA Scotch Bonnets over-wintering at a friend's house because there wasn't space in front of the sliding glass door for them and my wife's indoor plants... the deal is that if they both survive the winter, we'll split the...
Hey everyone, I am a noob at this, I was basically having a go to see if I can get some seeds to shoot. It's very late in the season here so I thought I'd see if I can get my technique right in preparation for next summer. 2 Dorset Nagas and 2 Birdseyes. 15 days in and 2 Dorset Nagas have shot, but one broke in half unfortunately. The 2nd one is alive and well. Can I put it in a bigger pot and place it outside immediately? It's in a jiffy pod. Knowing Melbourne we still have 2 months of 30 degree weather so I'll see what happens. I'll add some photos when I'm on my computer. Cheers
State of the Garden Address (2015 / 2016) In 2015 I decided to experiment with a bunch of new peppers I’d never tried before.  Some I liked and some I won’t be growing again.  About half the plants I grew were staple ones that I grow every year.  Here is a breakdown of my thoughts on each from last year.   Staples MOA - had great success this year and really like the flavor and shape of this pepper Caribbean Red Habanero - good yields, great flavor. Yellow Fatalii - my 4th year growing fatalii. Its my hot sauce workhorse pepper Aji Lemon - another staple pepper. 3rd year growing it Congo Trinidad - 3rd year growing this one. Love that Trinidad flavor. Trinidad Scotch Bonnet - 3rd year growing this one. Huge, huge pods! First Time -...
Trident's "It's all about the Bonnet" 2015
I am fascinated about the "Scotch Bonnet" Continuing in the same vein as my last season where I managed to grow over thirty varieties I am again keen to promote the "Scotch Bonnet" in all it's varieties and variations ... this season some new specimens to me and some old firm favourites such as SB7J and P. Dreadie ... a big thank you to those on this forum that have helped me in sourcing seed Elysium Oxide - Mustard (SB Faria x Douglah natural colour variation) - Meatfreak Elysium Oxide - Rust - Greg PIC1 SB x Trinidad 7pot - Superhot Sim ScotchBrain F3 (SB Yellow x Yellow 7 Pot Brainstrain) - Greg NeBru7 (Trinidad Yellow x 7 Pot Jonah) SB7J Grass Hut variation SB7J Atomic Mushroom variation SB Atomic - Snagglepuss NagaBon -...
Bug Wars
My Jamaican yellow has grown a Pepper, first this year , Problem is theirs a bug war going on on that plant, the aphids are being converted but the battle filed is bloody. Thinking of giving him a wash but dont want to get rid of those wasps that are killing the Aphids.
Kuban Hot Peppers Glog 2016
Hello!   I'm new on this forum, so please do not judge me harshly. I am from Russia, Kuban region, Krasnodar City (Olympic Games in Sochi in 2015 remember? From Sochi to Krasnodar 182 miles). Since English is not my native language, I will communicate with you through an interpreter, so please turn a blind eye to various shortcomings.   Peppers started in 2015, there were a few bushes of local peppers, the names of which you probably will not say anything, the only thing I can say they were Capsicum Annuum, as well as a bush Bhut Jolokia Pumpy.   In the new 2016, I swung at more interesting varieties not typical for my country. Here is a list of peppers, which I have chosen: Cheiro Roxa Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Brown Black Naga Carolina...
Yes, it is right, 2017.  Why 2017? Because I want to be the first to start the 2017 glog! Any prize??? Joking! :)   In fact I want to have an earlier start, and try to cut back my grow. To work a bit to my addiction. Probably 2016 will be the same as 2014 and 2015, with a large (TOO LARGE) variety of peppers on a too small garden. Which also means mostly only 1 or 2 plants per variety. Sometime that one plant produce only few pods. Which means can't do much with them, and not many seeds. Can't enjoy in those peppers, can't share seeds. Can't make powder out of 2 pods. So, the idea is to add a variety only if I can find a strong reason to grow it. Reasons like "why not?" or "let's try this too" are no more allowed. I hope to grow less...
Mnemosynesis 2016
Mnemosynesis 2016   Hello everyone, I’m back again this year after a failed attempt at maintaining a log last season. Between work, camping, and growing I had a hard time maintaining my log and remembering to do so. I hope to change that this year.   I’ve made numerous changes to my setup this season. I’ve ditched the CFL cage I had last year, and instead opted to go with a 4 bulb T8 system mounted to the ceiling with adjustable chains. I was able to sell my CFL bulbs and such to a friend that I got into growing, and it was able to completely subsidize the T8 setup which was surprisingly cheap.   After growing hot peppers for the first time last year I realized that my palate can’t necessarily handle the heat of the super hots quite...
Hello everyone!  This will be my first grow log ever!   I caught the bug last year and ended up with just shy of 200 plants covering 35 or so varieties.  This year I am hoping to get 225-240 plants covering 70-75 different varieties.  I will be growing 60 plants in grow bags and the rest will be in raised rows.  Seeds will be started this weekend.  Here is my grow list for 2016:     Trinidad Douglah Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Chocolate Trinidad 7 Pod Brain Strain Caramel 7 Pod (PL) Trinidad 7 Pod Primo Trinidad 7 pod Jonah 7 Pot Barrackpore 7 Pot Rennie Brown 7 Pot Barrackpore Chocolate 7 Pot Burgundy 7 Pot Bubble...
My Work Desk Pepper (1/25 - A Second Harvest?)
I figure since it's producing, might as well post about it. This is my 3yo Hot Paper Lantern. Last year it exploded with peppers but this year there was nothing, until about a month ago. I was going to Winter it again but noticed it had flower buds, so I got a grow lamp and brought it into work. This is the results. The larger peppers are growing about 4 to 5mm per day.
I wanted to start a separate Glog just for this project. Sorry Jamie, not photos yet....   I love wild Capsicum species, but C.eximium is one of my favorites. For 2014 I wanted to find as many C.eximium as I could and grow them all out.   My hope is to examine the flowers in detail, using a dissecting microscope. It is possible that I may also be able to get some DNA sequencing done, but that is not certain for now.   Here`s the list of what seeds I have so far.    CAP 500 CAP 1491 CAP 1530 CGN 19198 CGN 21502 CGN 24332 (not buforum) C.eximium from the UK (maybe CAP 500 or CGN 21502???) Cefn's journey to 2016 Glog
A bit of background ....   It all started back in 2014 when one of the kids bought me a Cayenne pepper plant, had a nice lot of peppers that year and i was hooked on growing a few more.   2015 Cayenne and Tabasco seeds were sown and had a few plants but very few pods, I thought (and not alone) how hard can this be?   I am no strange to growing things with a 5 acre farm, 40 foot poly-tunnel, 14x6 foot greenhouse and numerous raised beds  in Wales only thing holding me back is the weather.    So the end of 2015 A new grow tent was bought and this is were it starts.   I found this forum and did a lot of looking and reading to find i could over winter plants, I had a couple of Tabasco plants that i could experiment with.... This is about a...
http://imgur.com/a/IjkNy I've been growing this Bhut Jolokia for 3 months, been a very slow process. But over the past month it's just stopped growing. I don't know if I have to prune it or something but it's not producing pods it just stopped growing. I'm worried because Bhut jolokias are one of my favourite chillies and I do not want it to be a little healthy plant that doesn't grow for the rest of its life.
Back again for another year. All intentions of scaling down, have been thrown out the window!!    I am growing more annuum and less chinense though.  :P    Chinense Oxkutzcabian orange/Chichen Itza (not sure which one I'll grow. Welcome to PeriPeri's Grow 13/14/15/2016: South Africa   If you would like to see the 2012/2013 Grow, you can see it Here First a little info about our country: South Africa is situated at the very southern tip of the African continent. Our country ranges a divers spectrum of cultures and religions and of course habitats. Our country is flanked by the Atlantic on the SW coast line and the Indian Ocean on the NE coast line. Our diverse habitats range from tropical to sub saharan and even desert up north. One thing is for sure, the high summer temperatures and generally mild winter temperatures mean that our country does offer a great opportunity to grow chillies (among other things). To those who are not familiar with our country...
