Start a Grow Log for your growing season.
Trying this out again, I recently tried growing ghost peppers for the first time. I had one out of four germinate using the in-soil method. Then about a week later it died. This time i tried the wet paper towel method for germinating with more success. This time ill try using florescent lamps to get the seedling going instead of a sunny window sill. We'll see how it goes this time.          Update- Well looks like plant #2 has died. Good news is i have successful 4/4 germination in my other seeds. I think ill wait until they grow more until planting them this time. Ill see how that works. Not sure what im doing wrong.
Hello All,   New here, but feeling right at home. I figured I'd go ahead and get my glog started, though I may wait a few weeks yet before starting anything.   I'm pretty new, not totally new. I had a small grow last year, mostly in containers, bringing up plants that I hoped would make cool overwinter bonsai's (bonchi's). I ordered a handful of different varieties from http://fataliiseeds.net, all  95% of which sprouted nicely, though something must have gone wrong because many never grew true leaves. I think my house was too cold... I've moved now and now have an excellent heating system. I also kept the seeds by a window that I think got too drafty.    I did have a handful of chinenses survive, including a wonderful Red Habanero from...
SO after losing all my overwinter pepper plants from the last few years it has been a rebuild year. My grow list is the best assortment this year as it has ever been and the plants are thriving so far.   Grow list as of now   chinense 3 7pot bubblegum 3 7pot yellow 1 7pot primo 2 reaper 3 jigsaw  (baker pepper) 2 moruga scorpion chocolate 2 fatalii 3 bhut jolokia  1 habanero hot 3 habanero ? 1 Cheiro 1 peruvian serlano 2 wild brazil   baccatuum 1 inca surprise 2 lemon drop   frutescens 2 tabasco   annuum 1 piquin lg black 2 serrano 1 thai hot 2 yellow pepper from mexico   other species 2 cobincho  (exile)   Most of my grow is going on in pots and in greenhouse so long season here in the northwest for me. Have a few trays of seed...
Whew! 2013 Swirling down the Drain of Time.   Washing the 10x20s for a New Year.       By last October I was so peppered out  -40 some superhot plants and over twice that many mild and sweets. Didn't think I'd ever see the end of it. But, an early surprise freeze caught me off guard and I lost several mild and sweeties. I did get almost the entire superhot crop, dried, smoked, fermented, frozen or pickled. so I should have no dearth of heat to see me through to 2014 harvest.   I owe most of my pepper success in 2013 to YOU. All the folks here at THP helped me from seed, to advice, to encouragement, to inspiration.  Couldn't have done it without y'all.   Some changes for 2014:     I'm moving my Cappy 1000 Pepper Incubator into my...
Hey everybody Well,I'm back, and I am as ready as ever. Lsst year was my first year and yes, there were a lot of mistakes, but it was okay :) This year I am detormined to have an awesome grow, let's just hope mother nature plays along well ;) This year I am growing many variaties, but I'll give my full grow list later. For now I am planting 100 7pot bubblegum seeds. I will be planting a total of 250 bubblegum seeds. I would like to thank Brain Strain Pepper Head for the seeds. He's realy a swell guy :) No pics yet,but as soon as I have seedlings! I will be planting them in seedling trays and keeping them inside a barrel with a lightbulb to keep it warm. Let's hope all works out this season. I also know its a little early to start, but I...

Thought I'd start a new glog as my 1st year grow plants have now gone, and all remaining plants are intended for the 2014 season. Currently have growing with hopes of keeping through winter- Yellow bhut jolokia Brain strain Aji limon Chocolate Trinidad scorpion Fatalii Black Hungarian Chinese 5 colour. Have all healthy plants bar 1 out of 6 inch pots and in either permanent or semi permanent homes. Due to messing up the labels I'm not sure which is which on the Chinense varieties. Have 1 seedling that was seriously struggling, but it's starting to throw out new leaves so there's hope for it yet. Hoping we either have a mild Winter here, or I can get some lights set up in our spare bedroom to get them through until Spring. Have a few...
Welcome to my Glog! This will be my first year growing peppers. Last year was my first for growing tomatoes but I grew from starter plants. So with that being said I will probably be making some mistakes and would appreciate your advice if you notice something. Anyways,  I purchased a Secret Jardin Dark Propagator 90 (DP90) 3x2x3 grow tent and two 300w led fixtures off of ebay to get this season started. Everything has broke the surface minus the Brown Bhut (dried pods), Jalabanero (frozen Pods) and  Red Congo (Frozen Pods). I am hoping they will do something soon. One thing that has me puzzled is the Blue/purple tint that has developed on say 65% of my pepper seedlings. I don't know if I should be concerned but they are still kicking...
I tried keeping a winter grow log of my indoor growing, but I was distracted too much by a girl I had been dating and let my endeavors go to the wayside.  More specifically, there was what I call an "aphidpocalypse" in my aquaponics and hydroponics that I wasn't doing a great job of keeping in check.  Only a few Thai plants survived as well as some plants I had overwintered.  Oh well, I have more seeds than I know what to do with, and I'm gunna keep on truckin'   That being said, I'm giving it another go with my seeds and indoor growing, which most will be going into the raised beds and in buckets out on the patio.  My grow list includes   C. chinense   Reaper Fatalii Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Trinidad Scorpion chocolate Trinidad...

Hey guys,   this is my purple habanero plant. It is 30 days old since sprout. I had some problems at the beginning with the lights and the plants took mostly 12hours of light (18x2w 6400K CFL) each day for 2 weeks.     Since 2 weeks I have them under a 400w MH lamp and everything grows much better.   Here are some pictures.         I am not sure what is the standard height at this age of the plant. Any thoughts?
First time growing super hot strains, so any advice or pointers would be welcome and appreciated. I started some ebay scorpion moruga plants during winter indoors and ended up with 3 plants that lost most of the leaves but stayed alive and are coming back nicely outside, I hope they are actually morugas and not sweet peppers, lol. And recently made an order with Buckeye and their April fools special. I ordered 3 strains and received a bunch of freebies, nice knowledgeable people and great customer service. I planted about half of the Buckeye seeds of each variety, and had 90% plus germination except for the manzanos. I think I will need to use the paper towel method for the manzanos big black seeds.     I ordered, Manzano orange Douglah...
Hi there,   Although I've grown peppers back in 2010 and 2011 (life pushed me away from, unfortunately), I can say I'm a newbie on this. In other words, I'm restarting from nearly zero. The only things I have is a lil bit of experience from what I have not completely forgoten and a good variety of seeds, most of them old (3 or 4 years).   So I'm trying to grow some plants from my old seeds, from some that I've got from friends and some that I purchased. On this new experiment (started on Sep 13, 2014), I put 48 seeds (44 old + 04 new) of distinct varieties in an Osmopriming solution (destilled water + NaCl) for about 24 hours.    Seeds in Osmopriming solution.     48 seeds total.   About 24 hours later, the seeds were transferred into...
Well fine chiliheads, this is my winter project.  Most of my seeds have sprouted now and are growing quickly in their clear cups.  I am still waiting on some seeds to germinate since my bugglegums failed and this is where I'm at.   Grow list:   -Brazilian ghost -CGN 21500 (still slow to pop once seeds sprouted and were placed in soil) -Yellow brain strain -Primo x butch T F3 -Jonah x butch t -Yellow 7 pot primo   I have a single T5 at the top of my kitchen where it's warm to get these guys going.  I plan on limiting their light to slow their growth until at least february (will have to buy more light at some point) and then it's game time.  Lots of topping and pruning in my future.                           More updates to come...
Good morning All,   Here is my 2014 grow, coming to you from NY.   Seeds were started in Oasis horticubes, nutes were the Masterblend (check mhpgardener on youtube for more info).   180watt UFO LED and home-made CFL lighting rig ala Praxxis   4x4 sq, ft garden with plants spaced every 16 inches for a total of 9 plants. I did every 12 inches last year for 16 plants and everything was quite cramped. The garden and containers are organic with; Worm Castings Composted Manure Espoma Biotone Plus Jobes Organic Plant and Veggie Mykos at planting   Weekly feed with GH Floranova Bloom and GH Vitamino mixed with collected rainwater.   If the leaves look bubbly, I foliar feed with some CalMag Plus.       Hydro Naglahs and two starter pots   Hydro...
Howdy,   Figure I'd show off a little, knowing how much I like enjoying everyone elses pepper gardens. This is my superhot garden. Trying out drip irrigation this year, and going back to straw mulch. I highly recommend IrrigationDirect for the supplies.   It was a late spring this year, but the season is looking good now. I think the peppers could have waited another week for warmer nights, but I got faster than expected growth under my new T5's. They were pretty rootbound, even starting to bloom, so I figured this was the time to get them out.   Anyway, thanks for all the trades and hookups! Hope everyone else has a great season!

I will try to keep this updated once a week.My first season was a lot of trial and error. If I had a problem I came directly to the HP for advice to solve plant issues and what to do with the pods harvested, for that I thank you all.I still was not confident I could start from seeds so along with the plants in my closet I will be getting a few from Chillyplants. They sent some very very healthy peppers to me last spring.I also overwintered 6 plants from 2013,3 went to pepper Heaven.    From my seeds'     7-pots    Yellow Moruga     Red moruga    Trinidad Scorps   Choco Ghost     Live Plants from Chillies    Red Brain Strain    Jays Red Ghost Scorp Naga Morich  Eds Reapers Tabasco Siling Labuyo Malaqueta   Could not close...
This is my first time ever growing anything at all. Im a cook that loves using whole ingredients. One day, a chef where i work brought in a sauce made from the ghost pepper, saying it was the hottest pepper in the world ( which i know is not true now after looking online) and made chicken with it. The flavor was like nothing ive ever had before, smokey with an earthy flavor, mixed with the spiciness that had almost a delayed kick to it; Amazing. I knew i had to have this pepper, and i asked the chef where he got it. He said he grew them himself at home, so later i went online and ordered some seeds, and that was when i got interested in "super hots".      After researching what i needed online, i went to the store and bought some...
finished nov 10 2014, last post   Hey i'm new here and my 2nd year growing peppers.   Grow list:   Soilmix: 5-1-1 pine bark fines perlite coco or peat + dolomite lime   Fertilizer: Dynagrow 9-3-6 Foliage pro   Indoor light (until they can go outside in april): Sun system T5 4ft 8lamp   Containers: 1. solo cups 2. Viagrow 5gal bags   ===================================== Step 1 - Germination: Got my seeds all in so i decided to soak them in some tea for an hour and now they are in ziploc bags
So, here they are ... my babies... unknown Cayennes (someone in I.D. section says it's similar to Hot Portugal), Bolivian Rainbows, Goatsweeds, As chillies, Bolgarian Carrots and some non-hots even, for my wife and friends...   I planted the first seeds in late january, the next ones in the middle of february... and in about three weeks from now, they're going out... it all depends on the weather forecast...             for the last time... this years hottest is ... goatsweed.... but for next year I promised myself some superhots... moruga, reapers, bhuts..... whatever I'll decide to get by the end of the year... what do you think?   EDIT: I decided later to get two superhots this season and now I'm growing also Bhut Jolokia and...
First off, Happy Holidays everyone! Now that I have a little time, I thought I'd start a glog.   The backstory:  My last season sucked. Straight up. 10 plants. Averaged 1 pod a plant. Then I found this place. THEN I had to wait months to put all the tips I found to work. Suffice to say, I'm rearing to get going! Hope I don't mess it up! Hey all! This is my rookie blog, and here is my growlist: C. Can't really call this a grow log as most often I forgot/too lazy/busy to take photos of my plants growing up. So more like a collection of some photos of my chili plants (mostly pods) from past and present.   I started growing chili indoor when I was in college, like a pot or two (not sure that even counts). My serious chili growing started only 3 years back. As I live in apartment, most of my plants are grown in pots on my balcony. I grow many other (non-chili) plants as well, including rice paddy.   This is where the magic happens....     I will start with the past and these are some of my chili plants that are in a better place now.   Demon F1 (Thailand): my favourite of all, the most productive plant I ever had. It just gave up...
Hello everyone! I have decided to put my efforts into growing some hot peppers while I am out of work waiting on surgery. I severed my radial nerve at my job last November and will be having surgery done soon. Anyways I have been a gardener for a long time and I worked professionally at my university for seven years. Following the forums here and there until I decided to sit down here at THP to plant my roots. A little about the grow: I current have germinated several red and yellow ghost chilies that I received last year from a friend out of state. Last week I received in the mail twenty or so Carolina reaper seeds from puckerbutt pepper company. Next week I should be receiving several more strains, My grow list consists of 7 pot...
Well after seeing Paul Ts videos of him eating supers I just had to try some so I ordered a mixed box from a US grower. I did eat a whole bunch but I ended up dehydrating them...after removing the seeds from about 4-5 of each...which was painful...don't ask :) I planted about 6 seeds and 4 came up...after about 2 weeks of growth I put the biggest one in a nice new Powergrower. Here it is after ~90 days. And at 100. And at 110 with first flowers. And lastly from yesterday at ~120 days with first pods. I must say it has been an incredible journey so far... I just hope its getting enough sun for the pods to grow and ripen...time will tell. Cheers.

This years grow will be somewhat disappointing comparatively speaking, my wife and I decided last night to only plant the circle raised beds this year. Each bed holds 12 plants conservatively X 20 will only be 240 plants; all Reapers and for no particular reason; just to have something growing. Some of you may have seen my thread in the Lounge about a barn conversion and this will take priority over the dedication it take to grow our normal thousands of plants. ;-(   We did plant 2548 reaper seeds, we will transplant what germinates and try to sell locally anything over 240 All of the plants will be topped and stripped this year again, so if you are interested in that stay tuned.   Once again I may not have time to respond to all of...
I planted these seeds last night.  I soaked them in a diluted tea solution for a few hours.   7-pot Brainstrain - Red x 4 7-Pot Primo x 2 Brown Congo x 2 Jalepeno x 3 Naga Morich x 4 Peter Pepper x 2 Reaper x 4 Red Bhut x 4 Serrano x 3 Trinidad 7-pod Brainstrain - Yellow x 2 White Yucatan Habanero x 2 Yellow Jellybean x 4   Should be 36 plants total, but I planted 3 seeds for each one, will clip the smaller ones. One of the Serrano's bounced into the Peter Pepper tray. I think I got the right one back out, but they looked almost identical. So there might be a surprise later.        I converted an old turtle tank for keeping the seeds warm. There is a heat pad underneath the tray. The light is an aquarium light used for growing aquatic...
Figure I'll keep track 2014 on here. At least then all my data will be in one place instead of scattered around on slips of paper.   First; PSA.   I'll *never* use the Jiffy starting pods / soil again.   I lost 95% of the plants in these two trays:     The roots wouldn't form. They couldn't get any nutrients out of the soil, whatsoever, and tried to suck what they could from the layers of paper.    Burpee trays with compressed peat were planted 3 weeks later and within 3 weeks were quadruple in size.   Finished transplanting all sprouts on Saturday (4-5-2014).       I might lose a couple transplants but here's the current count (all in 3" paper cups)   7 pod Barrackpore - qty 6 7 pod Brain Strain, Yellow - qty 5  7 pod Brain Strain...

Ok, today i decided to plant seeds. First of all i want to thank who helped me in a thread and Sarge in particular that helped me to decide what to do! :D And Lonewolf from pepperfriends forum that has helped me a lot! My list, all from Semillas, begin of september 2013:   Trinidad Scorpion Moruga Red HP22B Trinidad Douglah Chocolate Bhut Jolokia Fatalii Fatalii White Ferenc Tender I've planted all but Ferenc Tender seeds, i'll plant them next month or in beginning of March. If i'll plant them. 11 per type. I've treated seeds for 15 mins in a 3% bleach solution then i washed them very well in water before planting. During that process i lost 1 seed of Trinidad Douglah and 3 of Chocoloate Bhut Jolokia (i suppose 2 of that lost seeds...
Hello all from the West Coast of Canada!   Usually a wordless forum lurker, but this place has de-shelled me a bit. I know a few of you so far and am looking forward to meeting, learning and growing along with everyone else. There is a hell of a lot of experience in one place and your strain lists are mind boggling :) Hehe already reminds me of the Mag   By way of an introduction, a rambling monologue.   I've always had a bit of a taste for firey foods, but what really sparked it off was a trip down island one year to a Goat Roofed farmers market. After an hour in front of the largest collection of hot sauces I had ever seen, I finally made a choice and headed to the register.   Somewhat confident in my choice, I double checked with the...
