    Good Jalapeno

I am looking for a jalapeno but I am not sure which one to get. I want one that is non-hybrid, hot, and has a traditional jalapeno shape. Bigger is better than smaller. Does anybody know of a good one?

    Morouga Blend

Is the Trinidad Scorpion, Morouga Blend a cross of a scorpion and something else or is it just another type of scorpion? Does it grow true to type if grown from seeds?

breeding Another attempted cross. Did it work?

I attempted a cross of a bhut jolokia with an annuum a while back. I was not able to tell if the f1 was for sure a cross. It looked a lot like a regular bhut. Here are the F2s. I am getting the feeling they are just pure bhuts. What do you think? Do they look at all like they could be a...

    Mangled pepper plant

This plant is seriously messed up. The leaves are all twisted and distorted. I flushed it in case it was over fertilizing. The plant has never been healthy. The seeds from the pod it came from didn't look very healthy. When it sprouted it was super small with really tiny leaves. It took...

    Sick cutback and transplant

I grew some peppers for the first time last year. It never gets bellow the 40s in the winter so I never bothered to bring any peppers inside. All of the leaves fell off but the stems looked fine and were still green. I decided to transplant the peppers I kept into bigger containers so they...

    overwintering Outside in the winter

Where I live it never gets cold enough to freeze. I don't think it ever gets bellow the 40s in the winter. And obviously the days get a little shorter. Will that kill the pepper plants? If it doesn't kill them will they stop producing and just go dormant?

    breeding Did this cross?

I can't tell if this is a cross. The seed came from a bhut jolokia. It was next to some annuums and could have crossed with one of them. Does it look like a pure bhut? I know it might be a little too early to tell and the pictures aren't great. I'll post another picture when it gets bigger...

    How do Bhuts taste?

I know bhuts/nagas are super hot but how do they taste? Do they have a similar taste to habaneros or some of the other chinense peppers? Are they so hot it is hard to taste anything else?

Lots of pollen from Annuums but very little from Chinense

My annuum plants seem to have lots of pollen on them. If you rub your finger on it you get tons of dust on it. But the two chinense types (red savina and bhut jolokia) seem to have very little to no visible pollen on them. Is this normal? I wanted to cross pollinate some annuums with pollen...

Flowers pointing down instead of up

I planted a few Takanatsume peppers. I have never grown them before. All of the descriptions say the peppers grow upright. The first flowers are coming in and they seem to be pointing down. Does anyone know what is going on? Does anyone have experience with this type of pepper? I bought...

    Leaves turning dark purple

The leaves on some of my peppers are turning dark purple. I have heard this is from the light. Is this true? They look healthy other than the color. They are not the types that always turn purple. I have mostly 6500k light. Should I just leave the lights alone or should I move them/change...

    jalapenos sparking in the microwave

I put a chopped up jalapeño in the microwave and it sparked several times kind of like if you put metal in. A few spots (I think where it sparked) the pepper was scorched even though the rest of it was steamy and not that cooked. Is this normal? What is in the pepper that would make it do...

    Help with snails

This morning I went to check on some of my plants in the front yard and I saw a snail munching on the zucchini seedling next to my bell pepper and jalapeño seedlings. The leaves had a bunch of holes in them. I got rid of it but I'm afraid more will come back. The plants are very little so it...

What is a very large heirloom bell pepper?

What is the largest or one of the largest heirloom bell peppers? Something similar to a Big Birtha but not a hybrid. One that has the blocky bell shape and isn't pointy at the end.

    Flower and pod question

Does each flower make 1 pod? If I hand pollinate 10 of 20 flowers with another pepper I will get 10 pods with hybrid seeds from those flowers and the other flowers will make 10 more normal ones right? Are the seeds in a pod identical twins or fraternal twins?

breeding Big Bertha and Hybrid question

I got a Big Bertha bell pepper seedling at the hardware store. It was the only bell they had. It didn't say if it was a hybrid or not but I think Big Bertha peppers are hybrids. If it is a hybrid how untrue to type will the seeds from it really be? As long as it ends up looking like some...
