Grow Logs for hot peppers.
OK...let's see if I can do this. What it is... What it was.... What it shall be... So 17 types this year as follows...THE LIST... But first just a brief history on how I got to this point...OH quit griping...I said it would be brief! 😏 I started growing peppers in 2021 because I was tired of paying $3.500@lb for peppers at the store for my chili. So I was like..hey I'll grow my own and save money...riiiiight! 😲 🤣 At this point with what I've invested in this hobby I could buy the store's yearly inventory. 🙄 So in 2021 I grabbed some Ferry-Morse Poblano and Anaheim seeds and threw them in the dirt. I ended up with a bumper crop and had so many I gave some away as much as I could but ended up throwing a lot away. I...
I thought about not doing a GLOG this year but have decided to "just do it". My grow will be much less this year with no super hots planted(although there are a few previous plants still going). Most new plants will be Jalapenos and various pheno's of PeppaPeach as those are the ones that I consume massive amounts of. This old pick of days gone by will be my lead pic for this years GLOG. I have several new ones taken since Jan 1, and I will be posting them as I get time until I am caught up. OK now, everyone get out there and produce some peppers.
This will be my first big foray in to pepper growing because of these two. Jasper (left) and Tin Tin (right) are my official taste testers. I myself have a fairly poor spice tolerance, tabasco is spicy for me but frank's red hot isn't so I'm working on it! The rest of my family have tolerance and my partner also appreciates spice so all is not lost, however. So far the lineup is: Annuum: Espelette (sourced from a chef friend, the lines go back to the French Laundry chef's gardens in California and prior to that were smuggled out of France - I have 200 of these I'm willing to share while keeping my own stock too!) Chile de Comida Ancho Bola Hawk's Claw El Incendo Fish Grandpa's Siberian Home Mystery Hot (hot is relative, 1000-5000...
Hi Guys i have decided to grow some peppers again and its been a while. It all started when i bought a big-ish pop up greenhouse as i have had to spend the money i saved for a proper greenhouse on bills! But i am excited to be growing peppers again this year and posting pictures as and when i can. My list of superhots are: Hurtberry x2 Primo x3 carolina reaper x8 dorset naga x1 gator jigsaw x2 and a few random odds and sods like rooster spur and some really late seedlings that will be only good for overwintering for next year Butch T Scorpion Chocolate Primo Reaper. Catch you guys soon and i hope you are all well
A long time ago, in a youth long shrouded in layers of dust, I convinced myself that I loved peppers. I loved eating them, I loved growing them, I loved nurturing them and seeing them thrive. It turns out that I was wrong. No compassionate being with even a shred of empathy could commit the gardening atrocities which I have rained down upon something that they love. Last year's harvest was a small handful of peppers, so I'm clearly not doing this to sustain my family or for any nourishment-related activities. It turns out that literally the *only* logical explanation is that I'm a psychopath, secretly relishing in the anguish which exudes from every plant that I touch. It doesn't feel that way in my brain, but I'm a man of science...
I really miss having these colorful babies in my kitchen. That, together with a very persistent gardening itch that has been bothering me since early December, made me give in. Here's to my first Glog and starting seeds just a tad bit early. 🥳 My set up is not as neat or organized as what I've been seeing here, as I've collected quite some different shaped seed trays over the years and have plenty of mismatching pots to go with that. 😀 Everything is set up for this growing season in the garage windowsill, making the garage my current happy place now that it's out. Experience has thought me it's best if I start closer to the end of January, beginning of February, but hey, there's no fun in doing everything by the book, right? I've...
OK! As we get rolling on the next phase of this ongoing series of marginal successes and impressive failures, let's take stock. Currently happy, healthy, and producing fruit: Casados Sugar Rush Peach Recently rooted via coffee filters and just planted in coir: Jamaican Red Hab (hi Paul!) Sugar Rush Cream (hi Paul!) Zapotec jalapeno (hi Mr. White!) Huacho Amarillo (hi... whoever sent me this as an extra on an order!) No hooks yet: Carolina Reaper (hi Alejandro!) Caribe (see Huacho Amarillo above) Below you have today's work. There are five seeds in each one, and all but a few have hooks, so the prospects seem pretty good for healthy plants, and probably extras for some more fruitless (mwahahaha) experiments besides. There's even a...
It has been a long time since I've been on this site. I like some of the new formatting on the GLOG section and such. Nice to see some old names from the past too. I am definitely growing less super hots this year than I have for ages. There are a few of course, but I decided to cut back some on them as after a while it's absurd in my eyes. :) I'm trying to find some ways to simplify the garden a bit by making 30 inch mounded beds and 18 inch rows. I don't ever want to step on the bed material if possible. I have to make it more manageable as my lower back and shoulders are telling me to do it! My grow as always is all over the board. The plants below are all F2s of a cross I made: CMPCR189. It has chinense, annuum and...
Hello there pepperheads, long time no see! I haven't grown anything since the 2018 season which was not a great one for me. Had okayish yield for an indoor grow, but I was swamped at work and tried too many new things which kind of made me burn out on the growing. I live in an apartment in the city, with no balcony, so I'm a strict indoor grower which has it's challenges regarding space, light, and so forth. But I've had quite good yields despite this. This year is no different, pure indoor grow in the same apartment with the same limitations. This first post will be a bit long since it covers the first month, but I will do my best to do frequent updates for your reading pleasure. With that said, let's go back to late 2022, and I...
I really wanted to try out writing a glog and hope that you find it interesting to follow. I have some jalapenos, naga morich and bunch of hainan yellow lantern growing at the moment. I plan to mature the jalapenos in the tent and for the rest - i wish i can already move to grow outside on the balcony in month or two. The biggest two in the picture are jalapenos. Naga morich is the medium sized one and hainan yellow lanterns are those two seedlings. I have also more seedlings of hainan in the tent as well, but these can't be seen on these pictures. I'm also considering sprouting some seeds for more seedlings, but I'm having difficult time choosing which variety to choose. I have seeds from the following chilies: Kongo Brown Fatalii...
I've been waffling on whether to try my hand at a glog, and then decided, "hey, why not?" I figure it's another chance to learn from the rest of you as I track my progress. There are a few factors at play: - I am in Málaga and there's pretty good weather here for year-round growing. I think the zone is 10a. - I don't have much space. Just a small patio that can maybe handle 6 or 7 plants. - I want to grow peppers that I find interesting, tasty, and beautiful. I don't mind super-hots, but they're not my goal. The hottest I currently have planned is MOA Scotch Bonnets. - My kids don't want peppers, so I agreed to get some tomatoes going for them if they agree to help out and learn with me. - And the last factor is I don't know what I'm...
Hey, i was sometimes thinking to open a glog to aks my questions there. I wasnt sure if I use my actually chili plants for completely indoor for a few years or just for these year. I am nearly sure that I dont plan atm to have chilis much longer than one year because I want to be a few weeks or even month to an other place. Here are my chilis atm. I think they are looking much better than a few weeks ago. But my fan is to load, makes also to much wind and is to cold for the tent. I dont like the sound of my USB-fan. It is much quieter than my big fan but it has a very uncomfortable frequency. Does someone has a cheap alternative? My tent has round about 15°C and I wonder why my chilis still looks so beautiful. They dont have...
🌴 Welcome to my GLOG! 🌴 I have a small urban terrace garden where I grow mainly peppers in containers. My location is Chiapas, Mexico. The local climate is tropical with pronounced dry and rainy seasons. The temperatures can sometimes be too much for the plants to bear (especially around Easter), but in general they manage. The climate makes that I can grow peppers year round, although pest pressure is really high. Especially mites are a problem... I apply neem oil copiously, but it does not always work... 🌴 This GLOG will follow my 2022 pepper endeavours. Enjoy 🥵
I will try to document my pepper garden from this year here. I am not very good at reminding to take photos, but i hope i will have enough to post. I sown the first seeds on January 7 , i had some very old seeds, some were older than 6-7 years... The only ones that germinated were: - Habanero red - Chiltepin - Aji Chiripita - Carolina Reaper - one Rocoto that i don't know what variety it is, but to me it tastes like figs... On january 20 i got some seeds from Sinenomine but i only planted Fatalli and Tepin x Lemon Drop until now, i will be planting some more soon (the varieties that doesn't need a very long growing season). Two days ago i got the envelope with the seeds from Semillas.de (ordered around january 10...) and sown as...
Hello fellow Capsichums! I figured I would start a log here, mainly to learn and also share some of my own experience with what seems like a bunch of fellow plant nerds! I have grown organically(mostly indoors) for about 5 years but am new to growing peppers! I'm still trying to figure out the best way to feed as they grow, as I am used to growing in large 20gal pots, which are much easier to manage with just top dressing and watering, whereas the peppers will be going into 5 gals max and will be outdoors(indoor space is for more..profitable crop...). Not really the style I'm used to! But I will have over 130 plants once I pop the last few seed packs I have... try filling 130 20gals with soil LMAO No thanks. Anyways...the varieties I...
Hello again. Your favorite badger-based sauce guy is back with a new glog for 2022. You may have noticed the lack of updates on my last thread. What happened is the sheep got through my totally inadequate fence and ate all my plants. About 900 of them. It was an unmitigated disaster. I was so pissed I just gave up on the glog. I still wound up with quite a lot of sauce from my other spots, 16 carboys or so. Having learned nothing from last year, I decided to double the number of plants this year, and put up a better fence. Here's the breakdown: ID variety num plants 1. 2017 yellow 7 pots 650 2. 2021 yellow 7 pots 300 3. 2018 yellow 7 pots 300 4. chocolate habs 400 5...
