🌱The Pepper Maniac 2022🌱
Okay so it's time to start the 2022 glog here at THP! Last year we started everything on January 1st and I think they were a little too big and root bound by the time May came around for plant out. Thinking that may of stunted the plants slightly so we are starting this year February 1st to see if that makes any difference. I'll include some pod porn and last year's plants cause we all know everyone on THP loves pictures. The list for 2022 as of Jan. 20th 2022 1. K.S. Yellow Starburst 2. Dragons Breath 3. White Bubble Gum 7 4. Chocolate Bubble Gum 7 5. Star Scream 6. Gold Reaper 7. Peach Reaper 8. Red Reaper 9. Gold Reaper TX strain 10. Peach Reaper 11. White Reaper 12. Peach Ghost Jami 13. growyourown's 2021 adventures
hey all! never done one of these before. this is my third or fourth year growing, but i'm still an amateur. i grow in smallish raised planters (5-7.5 sq.ft. surface area) last year i had 3, this year added 2 more. i don't add anything to the plants apart from store-bought manure and some miracle-gro every week or two, i've never topped plants or even pinched flowers before.   so i am definitely welcoming to any advice or suggestions you guys have for me, and i thank you for checking out my posts.   so here we have my plants for this year (left to right in the pictures, assuming i succeed at attaching them). my mother-in-law germinates my seeds and raises the plants in infancy, since she is retired and has a modest greenhouse off her...
Don't Panic 2021 - No, Seriously... Don't Panic!
Let's get 2021 started!!!   My grow list is a blend of my yearly regulars, new peppers I want to explore, and unstable crosses.  Like a lot of people, I can never seem to grow enough pepper plants to satisfy all my desires, so I have to make some decisions.   I have a lot of Annuums on my grow list this year.  Even though they're not the hottest peppers, I always seem to find them useful.   2021 Grow List   Jax - A cross from 2020 between a Jamaican Yellow Mushroom and another unknown pepper Bumpy Bottomed Sri Lankan Chili Red - A 2020 cross between a Sri Lankan Chili Red and another unknown pepper.  It had a bumpy bottom compared to regular Sri Lankan Chili Reds, and was thicker-walled. Jalapeño - One of my regulars. Sri Lankan Chili...

I got a very late start on my first season growing chiles this year, so in lieu of processing ripe pods I’ve spent my energy dreaming about next year. I hope y’all’ll forgive me an early start on my glog for 2022. This is pretty ambitious for what amounts to my first season seriously growing vegetables, but I do have a fair amount of other gardening experience. I also work from home (web development) and have a lot of moments between tasks or entire dead days when I can be gardening. Also, my partner will be growing those marked ‘K’. It’ll be a hustle, but we got this. My specific goals for the year: Experience growing a wide variety of species and cultivars to establish what grows well here and what is most useful in my kitchen...
My first year: http://thehotpepper.com/topic/70997-sivs-2019-first-time-glog/ My second year: http://thehotpepper.com/topic/73302-sivs-second-time-lucky-2020-glog/page-10   Planning is currently underway for year 3. I'll probably start seeds in February with a view to putting them out in March. My wife complained several times this year that I didn't grow enough peppers that she could use for cooking so this year I'm going to remedy that. I didn't grow any annuums last year so will be going for several this year. I'm not going to bother with pubes as they can't seem to take the Texas heat. I'm also not going to bother with baccatums this year either. I'm going to aim for 15-20 varieties allowing for 2-3 plants of each. I have way too...
HeatMiser's 2021 Glog
Happy New Year!   With the new year comes a new Glog, hoping that 2021 is much better than 2020 (low bar, I know). I'm already pumped to get things going.   Here's what I'll be growing this year   5 Gal Kratkys   Fatalii - Always wanted to grow these. I've had germination issues in the past. Hopefully I'll get to finally grow one this year. Antep Aci Dolma - I've read amazing things about this pepper. Looking forward to using it in the kitchen. Carolina Reaper - The one and only. The king of sting. I just had to grow one of these. Paquime Hybrid - These Jalapenos are gigantic. I see some Poppers in the future. Yum-Yum Hybrid - Growing these for my wife. She wanted to try a different sweet pepper. Habanero - A classic. I'm growing this...
SKULLBIKERS Fun with peppers in 2021 GLOG
And so it begins, another year of growing some peppers. This will be a sort of continuation of last year   http://thehotpepper.com/topic/73129-skullbikers-roaring-into-the-twenties-glog/page-1   as several of those plants are still going(and many got whacked and ended up on the burn pile).    Anyway, I have 3 trays of peppers sown and many have germinated already(mostly annums). I wanted to compare several different jalapeños for taste in real time. This tray is all jalapeños, ten types from 7 different vendors. The seeds in block 3 are from 2014.     Another tray with annums at each end and mostly rocotos in the middle(and they're taking their sweet time).
Pepper Sprout Farm 2021
Join me in my 2021 journey from seed to bottle. Still waiting on a few things to come in the mail but I wanted to get some things started. Seven pot primo, red bhut, choc bhut, orange Thai, lemon habanero, red habanero, hot cherry, shishito, poblano, starfish, jalapeno, orange spice jalapeno, Hungarian orange, sweet banana, chocolate beauty bell, California wonder bell.all started with aged compost mixed with a Little pearlite.
Downriver - 2021
Well, I hear tell it's (past) time to start a Glog, so why not give it a try. I've been on here for years and always enjoyed reading them. So, I thought it might be fun to write one for a change...or not? lol   Anyway, for this year's grow, I came up with a few themes. First, I'm participating in a couple of the THP grows, namely the Growdown Throwdown and the P. Dreadie SB grow. I'm doing a Bhut grow and a Jalapeno grow. I've already had some successful seed pops. Left half - Chinense, right half everything else (three weeks later). Needing some potting up.     Also, I'm attempting to do an “old seed” re-stock. I'm going back to the original seed I received many years ago from folks and try to isolate and produce new seed stock. They...
Interspecific hybrids
Hi, I'm Royce from South Africa and I've been growing peppers for a few years now. I've been really loving the baccatums and the Chinense BBGs so last year 2020 I decided to try my hand at some hybridizing and thought why not try cross the two species. I made a friend in Italy who has been growing his baccatum x Chinense for a few generations and it got me excited to get it going. My 1st interspecific is of Aji Cito x Mamp Black Berrygum. I grew it out this season and was very pleased that it was a successful attempt. Please see my pictures and let me know what you think.
"Plus tard ne rien...I'm not dead ye...." 2021 Pepper Gloginsummary'
Hello, Cappers. It's been a year a and a most of a pepper season since we moved to our new garden site. So I've been somewhat busy re-building. Pepper seeds don't last forever, but I have 138 pepper seed lots going back 8 years maybe. So. what to do to get a jumpstart? A few did sprout last year; Inca Red Drop, Cabe Merah Panjang, and a 7 Pot Barrockpore that I thought I'd try to overwinter. The Panjang and 7 Pot B I left in the garage grow-shelves and they did OK until early spring when aphids ATE THEM MERCILESSLY down to a stem and few leaf buds. The Inca got front row in the living room windows and produced by spring one ripe pepper (who's 4 seeds sprouted!). I did receive a treasure chest from Sawyer of Papa Dreadie and Sulu Adana...
Gambleu's 2022 winter pepper
Hi. Although not new to pepper growing it's my start to THP. I'll try to maintain a decent log of my grow/experimentation, as i'm trying to figure out the best way to grow peppers in my northern canadian climate Currently, i'm in my first try at overwintering. I have saved 4 habanadas feom last season. All have different growing condition. My first 2 are simply in front of a south facing window. Currently i have about 8 hours from sunrise to sunset and weather is often cloudy/snowing The one on the left has been dug out of the ground so both leaves and roots suffered a severe haircut. The one on the right was in a pot all summer long so only a minor root cut followed by transplanting was required. So far the healthier of the 4 by...

I am still in the planing stage for this year grow. My list is not even properly formed . I got alot of old seed that I've been going threw & waiting for a order to come in. This year really the direction I've been heading these past seasons is geared towards pepper jelly or rather Jam as I come to believe that's what I actually make . I'm also looking towards pickling & hot sauce making . My ideal pepper profile is hot to very hot ,sweet & fruity not much floral citrus is fine as well. I loved the Yellow Trinidad Scorpion I had some seasons back crunchy , juicy & sweet with fruity & citrus tones It was pretty darn hot as well. I may of been a cross the guy I tried it form never would give a clear answer . If it was a cross I believe...

A quick peak in Datil's garden
Hello THP fellows,   i haven't been posting much of lately so i thought it was time to share some quick shots. This year's grow is really on a small scale due to the chronic lack of time, but i'm back to superhot land where little harvest goes a long time :D   - 2 x Chocolate Moruga (SLP) - 2 x Trinidad Scorpion Red CARDI (Bhuter) - 2 x Naga Morich (my seeds) - 2 x Brain Strain (SLP)   Things have been rolling pretty slow so far but the nice weather is finally come and i hope to have some nice fruits hanging in the summer.   Choco Moruga #1     Choco Moruga #2     Scorpion bros     An horrible shot of Nagas and Brain Strains circling their roots in small pots, i will transplant this week hopefully:     Random garden shot:    ...
Tokyo summer 2021: Tent and AC, because 35C is not fun.
Welcome to the next episode of some half-witted fish neglecting pepper plants in Japan! While my wife will be keeping two of my off-season plants outside (KS Lemon Starrburst and Nanbu), the indoor stuff is -- aside from the SR Peach -- entirely new to me in terms of growing. So I'm hoping to get both some fun new flavors, particularly from the Casados, and a pod I'm absolutely in love with thanks to PaulG in the Jamaican red habanero. I expect this to be an excellent season for sauce.   The main characters were started in mini Kratky bottles based on Khang Starr's method for intentionally root-binding plants in small containers to force them to pod up quickly. Unfortunately, this did not work for me at all, so now I have a fun variety...
AHayastani's ГЛΟГ
I have an urban "garden" on the roof of a house in tropical Chiapas, Mexico. It's the first year that I'm growing plants - mostly Capsicum - in this location. I lived in a temperate region of Europe before, and the adaptation to different growing conditions is not without setbacks. Another issue is that not all material that I would like to use is commonly available here, so at times I have to be more creative than I actually want to be. That being said, it is also unbelievable (for me, at least) to see how some plants manage to grow in this climate even in adverse conditions (despite my bad treatment, that is).   I have obtained seeds from various sources (abbreviations in parentheses will be used in this glog): White Hot Peppers...
Growing Trinidad perfume, lemon drop, Trinidad pimento, and foodaroma scotch bonnet red and yellow. Started seedlings in February. Poor germination with the scotch bonnets. My seedlings would have done better with more light. Have had aphids since early , and I let the aphids grow for a few weeks before treating. Peppers have really been doing well outside in full sunlight recently. We had a few rainy weeks and the peppers really improved in health during that period. I may have been underwatering the Peppers - and the rain also seems to have reduced the aphids. I now have multiple very healthy good sized pimento plants with numerous flowers. Lemon drop looks ok and has many peppers. Perfumes look ok - many distorted...
SineNomine 2021
Hi all! Although I'm pretty old around here, this will be the first Glog. I have been growing peppers on the balcony since 2014. Last year I switched everything to hydroponics and I am very happy with it. Here is the growing list: Hanging pots: - Fatalii 6 - Fatalii Red 2 - Yellow Devil's Tongue 1 - Papa Joe's SB 3 - Scotch Bonnet MOA 3 - Black River SB 1 Floor pots: - Pimiento de la Puta la Madre 3 - Lemon Drop 2 - Chile Rayado 4 - Jalapeño M 4 - NuMex Vaquero 4 - Yellow Devil's Tongue 1 - Tepin x Lemon Drop 3 - "Aji Cito" (Panama) 1
tsurrie's 2021 glog
Hey all. First of all, I wish everyone a good grow this season! Off to another season, almost too late, but still on time :)   Today I started this year's pepper journey, not so big, but it'll keep me warm.         So I tried a few from an old stock and some from the latter seasons. Will see what will sprout. I guess the new ones will, no doubt. The nurseries are stocked way better than a few years back around here, so I guess the chili fever has spread and I can expect some interesting seedlings to pick from later on in the spring, if I have problems with my own.
OK guys, I know I'm not much of a writer on this forum but I do read it daily. Maybe it's time to try a glog again...   I started my seeds on the 1st of February. These are the ones I selected for my grow this year...   Jalapenos: Farmers Market Jalapeno Rayados Jalapeno Zapotec Jalapeno Jalapeno Dieghito Telica Jalapeno Scotch Bonnets: Foodarama Yellow Schneider Farms Freeport Orange Marabella Market Yellow Papa Dreadie Bhuts: Bhut Jolokia Caramel Bhut Jolokia Peach Misc: Ancho Poblano Piment D'Espelette Gochugaru At first I wanted to make this a Jalapeno only season with 10 Jalapeno varieties + Piment D'Espelette and Gochugaru. But then I thought... the Scotch Bonnet season that I wanted to do in 2019 turned out into a fiasco...
Dutch Bucket Pubes
I played around with a small hydroponic system a few years ago ( 6 Dutch buckets in a recirculating system ) and managed to grow more serrano tampiqueno peppers than I knew what to do with. Always wanted to try something bigger so once I had some free space available I built a heated 24' x 32' high tunnel hoop house and started to build this inside. 2 rows of 16 Dutch buckets that will be fed by a 100 gallon reservoir. I got tired of having rocoto plants loaded with unripened peppers at the end of the season so I'll let them have a nice warm home to finish the job. Figured I'd see if rocotos handle hydroponics as well as the serranos did. Don't have pictures yet, but I've attached runs of 2" pvc on either side as return lines for...
Mildfruit 2021 Expanding from hydroponics.
Hi all!    This is my third grow blog. You can find the first one here, and my second one here I started out with pure hydroponics using both kratky and growdan blocks as I was restricted to indoor growing. Last year I experimented with indoor coco coir with great succes using the auto pots!   Now this year will be a little different, because due to a new job I had to move and my new apartment have a huge glass balcony (facing south)! Under firm negotiations with the GF I managed to land a deal to have 4 outdoor plants.  As part of the deal I had to give up one of my two grow tents  ;)   However this means I will have coco coir indoor, and for the first time in a long time I'll have plants in soil outdoor!  Im really excited to compare...
Stetto's '21, ok ok ok, SEMI-glog glog
I wasn't planning to do a grow log this year, too much going on and little time to devote, but I've had a real good seedling season, so I thought I'd drop in from time to time to glance around and give you guys n gals something to talk about...   SUPER small list this season, but germ rate was outstanding on some varieties, so whaddaya do?   Pubescens Aji Oro Rocoto (spawn of Aji Oro OW) Rocoto Rojo (from 2019 harvest) Turbo Pube (from 2019 harvest) Hyper-X Rocoto (Canedog) Awesome Orange Rocoto (Canedog)   Annuum Chimayo (Harry_Dangler) Nambe Pueblo (Harry_Dangler) Hernandez Hot (Harry_Dangler) Big Jim Legacy (Sandia) Serrano Tampiqueno (Sandia) YOLO Bell (Tradewinds Fruit)   Overwinter XL Brown Rocoto (Canedog)...
CaneDog 2021
Well, here we go again.  The indoor offseason got away from me around the turn of the year, so I decided to shut things down and start clean with the new outdoor season.    I dropped all the wilds, rocotos, baccatum, chinense and frutescens earlier this month and, excepting wilds, pretty much everything is up and growing.  One thing I did different this year was I didn't presoak seeds, except for a few wilds.  I checked the days-to-germinate for the first round varieties against how they did last year and, based on a quick look, it seems they were generally maybe a couple days slower, which is about what I'd expect.   Today, I transplanted all the baccatum (except Berry Amarillo) plus a few Moz Piri Piri (thanks Tybo!), which are...
TBF 2021-Infinity GLOG
Howdy, how you all been? This thread is going to be the permanent one where all is posted instead of jumping all over the forum. The inside plants are still alive and kicking. Have the 2021 grow seeds ready to be started probably at the end of this month. Here's the list: lemon drop goronong                    7 pot madballz           naglah beast little bastard                primotalii kaos                            jalapeno chernobyl ramirez stinger            hurt berry aji charapita                moruglah 7 pot douglah              wrecking ball X 7 pot brown
Well I figured it's time to start one of these. Like all good grow logs a good year starts with a clean table and lots of room to work before it falls into the usual mess of dirt and cups. You can follow our grow here or for a 'to the minute' updates on instagram http://instagram.com/pepper.merchant Here's to the other growers and to all the plants people ordered!
DeadSilent ‘21-‘22 Pepper
Hey Pepperheads! DeadSilent here starting a grow log for my so far 18 varieties of hot and super hot peppers! I will be adding 20+ when we get closer to 2022! As of today the majority of my seeds come from Baker Creek, but there are a few from Sherwood Seeds, Waylands Chiles, and Fatalii. I have a few more varieties coming from White Hot Peppers to be added to the line up! Starting this grow I plan on keeping 36 of the 66 that have sprouted. I would keep them all but I am limited on indoor space for the winter. I hate to cull any of the herd, so I’ll be trying to give away the 30 that I can’t fit into my tent over the winter. As we get closer to spring I want to have close to 40 different varieties. 2 of each kind for a total of 80...
So I couldn't wait any longer and decided to get the mix out set up the seed greenhouse and get a move on 2021. This year is gonna be the earliest I've ever started seeds for the season, so we should have some monsters by the time we plant out around Mothers Day. This year we have a nice variety and we got some science experiments to play with. That will come later on so just wait and see what I have in store. Unless noted I only used 1 cell per variety. We're going to go a full on container grow this year due to the house I currently rent has little to no yardage being in the suburbs, so we'll make due with buckets and fabric pots. I did a few 5 gallon plants before and they always came out beautiful so we shall see what this year...
Today launches The Pacific Northwest GLOG 2017, geared towards growers from the following regions:  Oregon Washington Alaska Northern California Idaho Montana Wyoming British Columbia Lets hope for a great grow season up here!     Feel free to post any info about peppers growing (or not) in the PNW region (or not)
MikeUSMC 2021
What’s up, gang! This isn’t going to be much a GLOG this year; more of me just popping in and dropping a few pictures here and there, when I have the time (remember ;) ) Had a rough couple of years in the pepper department. Overtime (or night shift) at work for the past 2 years caused me to lose all of my seedlings in the Spring, forcing me to order plants online. No big deal but, when harvest time came around, I was working 6 nights a week, from 4pm-4am, with over an hour one-way commute 🙄 Didn’t have the time to harvest anything and ended up watching all of my pods rot on the vine. “No big deal,” I thought. “I still have a few gallons of pods in the chest freezer!” Well, as luck would have it, my chest freezer shit the bed, and I...
alkhall 2021
Not going to be much this year. We are adding a privacy fence, so the raised bed is out of commission until next year, hopefully bigger and better.   Anyway, I have three clones that survived of the five cuttings I took last October. These are (I believe) and unintentional cross of a Red Primo and a CPR. The plant was from seeds from a CPR pod grown in 2019.     They spent the winter under a cheap two-lamp two-foot T5HO fixture with 6500K lamps, and next to a west facing window.       Also doing a few bells and tomatoes.
TripleJ 2020 in a Nutshell
Long time no read.   Unnecessary history -skip to A at will.  My last glog was 2015 it appears. I just evaporated. A medical issue in '14  took me forever to get adjusted to the meds and by '15, I just threw in the towel out of frustration I guess. The garden got shoved to the back burner. I helped with my daughters small plot, but that was 350 miles away. I was there every other weekend because my wife had moved in with her family to help with grandchildren You have to have priorities I guess   :P. The overall plan was for me to stay and sell the business and our house and move in too until we found a place close by. That operation completed the first week of spring 2020 when a moving truck rolled up to our new house (almost attached...
