I figured I'd put as much information I can find in this thread, not only to make it easier for others to help me...but to maybe help other growers who are at the noob stage like I'm at.  (Maybe I'll ask some of the dumb questions so they don't have to!)   This year I'm growing Serranos, Habaneros and Jalapenos...having started them all indoors under fluorescent lights on February 28th.  Rather than bore everyone with pictures they've seen a million times of the seeding process, I decided to opt against posting them and just instead mention that I got WAY more seeds sprouting than I had allowed for and was dealing with multiple plants in each little Peat Pot we'd planted them in.   At about two months we transplanted the sprouts into...
2014 marks Burnin Bob's first year starting the World Famous Ghetto Garden from seed.  Every year prior I've bought seedlings at my local nurseries.  However, last year I got burned (no pun intended) by one place that sold me what were supposed to be Trinidad Scorpion Peppers but turned out to be some barely hot long pepper. So this year I got seeds from various sellers from ebay and am hoping to have a good season.  The seeds I got this year are:   Carolina Reaper Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Cumari Odham Indian Thai Sun Tepin Bird's Eye   There are also some other random vegetables my girlfriend started such as cucumbers, zucchini, coneflower, milkweed, tomato, tomatillo, bell pepper, and jalepeno.  You know, normal stuff!    Got a late...
So, gardening has become a new obssession of mine.  Wife and I did our first last year which consisted of Tomatos, Cucumbers, Green Beans, Squach, and Peppers.  I started researching about gardenting (mostly youtube) and stumbled across videos of chili heads testing these rare varieties of peppers.  I already liked a bit of spice in my food and had made some hot sauces of sorts, so this year I wanted to try some of these "rare" varieties.  So here I am starting my garden for 2014 and am adding a large variety of peppers to my grow.    My last garden mostly consisted of getting plants from lowes and transferring them into some garden beds that I had made.  This year I'm getting an early start and starting from seed.  I'm quite new to...

I'm fairly new to this forum and it seems like doing a glog is a good way to get some input as well as share my techniques and experiences, limited as they may be.   I started some seeds late this year. Really late. 6 days ago late. I already have germination on 5 varieties. Yucatan White Habanero, Congo Brown Habanero, 7 Pod Primo, Bhut Jolokia, and Trinidad Scorpion "Butch T"! I'm starting them in a south window in a mix of 3 parts Ocean Forest, 1 part perlite, and 1 part coco fiber. It seems to be working fine. I also have some plants that I ordered from Refining Fire (Jim Duffy and his crew, I'm sure he's well known here). Those are all listed in my grow list in my profile. I'm doing a shortish hardening period that started with...
It's almost time for the new year which means an exciting start to a new growing season!   I've gone through my seeds and have selected the following for new starts in 2014:   Bubblegum 7 (KingDenniz) "KDU" - KingDenniz Unknown - I think it may be another BBG7, but I'm not sure. Was an unlabeled half pod with the rest of the seeds I got from him. MoA Scotch Bonnet (KingDenniz) FtL Scotch Bonnet (KingDenniz) 7 Pot Yellow [Not Isolated] (MGOLD86) - These were some of the most neon yellow pods I've seen. TSMB Yellow [Not Isolated] (MGOLD86) Douglah [Not Isolated] (MGOLD86) - Gnarly looking pods from this one Bhut Jolokia Assam [Not Isolated] (MGOLD86)   Here they all are taking a bath:   I'm going to attempt sprouting them on coffee...
**Instead of starting an entirely new GLOG, I decided to tack 2014 on to the end of this one. So if you have already went through 2013's grow, just jump ahead to page 40.**   Before you go on, I would recommend you grab a beer or something else stiff to drink.  If you didnt follow my grow last time around, I have the tendency to go on, and on, and on, and on.  Also, I may not be the most "PC" out of the group, so if you are looking for clean language, on topic discussion, and general 'niceness', I am sure that I can point you in the right direction.   Ok, now that we got that out of the way....I AM STARTING A FREAKIN GROW LOG!  A quick bit of back story. Since I spent more time in high school partying than studying, I didn't have much...
Sooooo I'm a bit late on this, haven't been on the site too much in a while. I moved halfway across the state in June last year which put the entire garden in limbo. Since my roommate was still living there, I decided to just leave my plants and come back for them later. Let's just say not much made it. Garden got hit by a frost before I could make it down, and I'm pretty sure my roommate forgot to water things... more than once. Oh well. I had a handful make it through the winter, though my grow is scaled back a bit as I am using someone else's yard, and I started seeds late as I wasn't sure I'd have a space to use. Anyway, I'm doing a handful of things this year. I'll see what I can manage next year. Current list: Aji Amarillo C...
OK, so last year was my first full grow season using seedlings from a garden centre (grown in pots) which had mixed results.  Did you usual over-watered, over-fertilised, over-cared approach and experimented with soil mixes from too heavy to too light, had to battle fungus gnats on mass, a black fungus that wiped out a few plants and a swarm of aphids at the end of the season too... BUT still got a few pods to try that cant be bought from the local supermarkets, so was not all bad and I think learned a lot for this year.   This season I'm trying to grow from seed.  A big shout out and many thanks Micca (THP member), who sent me a very generous seed pack.  Really blew my mind how many varieties he sent me.     To trial run the heated...
I have been meaning to keep better notes and records on what I have been messing around with.  This past spring/summer was my first year growing anything.  In July I saw the writing on the wall.  Winter would arrive soon enough and then I would be without pepper plants to keep me occupied until next spring.  So in July I germinate some giant chocolate hab and bhut jolokia indian carbon seeds.  A couple of months later I did the same with some aji limon and tobago seasoning.     The goal is to produce some pods this winter and then have some kick ass mature plants to plant out in the spring of 2014.  All of these plants are potted up with Coast of Maine Potting Soil that I amended with perlite, bone meal, and some tomato-tone.  I am...
This will be my third year of growing peppers, but the first to document it and share my experience.   My past experiences with growing peppers has been mixed.  It all started when I bought some bhut jolokia's at the supermarket and sowed the seed in my mom's garden in late September.  A couple seedlings came up, and thanks to our mild winters in Houston, the plant easily survived the winter and turned into a monster of a plant, producing well over 1,000 pods in it's first season.  That same spring, I grew several other varieties, including Red 7 Pod Brain Strains, and had several amazing plants.  This past season, however, I vastly increased the number of varieties from 7 to about 15. Due to a lack of time, and honestly, effort, this...
Hi   Scroll down for new pics   i started at june 6th a new project. My target was a rocoto bonsai. The pot contains 0,5l and the size of the rocoto is 14 inch Here u can see the bonsai at the beginning       and now he looks like this. he had now many blooms and start to get fruits           Sorry for my bad english
I gave my co-worker Bob some chile plants again this year. He's got some of them  in containers at his hunting camp, but the bulk of them are in the ground back in a clearing behind the camp…He snapped these pix of his container plants today:   F3 Red NagaBrain. The leaf detritus in the dirt is the results of his pinching blossoms, as per Søren's advice:     Madame Jeanette (meatfreak):     Chilhuacle Rojo:     Lumbre (the extra-hot New Mexico Chile from Faron Lytle):     Chile de Arbol (CarlosO):
Hi there, just starting my first glog. I can't remember what I started growing, so time will have to tell me. I just moved them from the starter peat pellets to their new home, my deep water culture(DWC) setup. I just built it today and I am pretty excited to see how everything turns out. Wish me luck. Now if only I can figure out how to add photos, haha. Figured it out thanks to Pexpeppers.
Hola Chiliheads,   Started on February 1st - everything is up and about with 2nd & 3rd set of leaves. In 2013 I grew out 200 plus peppers many of which were super-hot peppers. This next year 2014  I am mixing it up and decided that since I have enough outside grow area and have enough room in my basement to start close to 2,500 peppers that I might as well go all out and grow it BIG.     The equipment: I have 4, 1000 watt HID MH/HPS lights, 6  double bulb T8 lights for seedlings, close to 3,000 nursery pots, seedling trays, 4x4, 6x6, 1 gallon, 3 gallon, and 5-7 gallon containers that I received all for Free from a local nursery who recycles all their plastic. I have 3 turbo fans for air control. My basement maintains 70-75 even temps with the lights.     I have 2 seedling mats one is single tray size and the other a 2x4 mat that hold 4...
My little collection of 4 plants... (Updated from my intro thread http://thehotpepper.com/topic/48486-first-year-in-danish-climate where I also had pics)   Datil Sweet I'll probably not keep this when it's pod season ends. Unless it turns me around. I'm not really finding myself to be a fan of it's flavor and aftertaste.   Bolivian Rainbow This has to be awful to not be a keeper. It's just too pretty. :D   Naga Morich I fully expect to NOT have this next spring. It's just not the kind of chili I feel I should have started out with. I'm not sure why I grew this. Oh well. :D   Aji Cristal I have high hopes for this one. I hope it tastes great, as I'd like to keep this. I won't keep it unless I like the flavor though.   Depending on...
Hi All,   So I wasn't going to do a glog but I have the itch after perusing through all the others. I have a bit of catching up to do I see. I'll do my best to update and contribute to others as well. First time growing peppers from seed here, last year I grew nursery plants.   Ok, so first let's go with the list, but first I want to thank the following members for contributing to my grow, I really appreciate it guys and can't wait to share seeds back out in the fall. So thanks go out to, in no particular order, Jamison, Hendrix1386, MGOLD86, howardsnm1, jerrymart, Spankyscolts, Cone9, Justaguy, JoynersHotPeppers, Big Lew, Ocho Cinco, and of course all the members of the Great Canadian Seed Train. Hat's off to you all.   7 Pot Red 7 Pot...
After a bit of a hiatus... I'M BACK BABY!   Towards the end of last season I drifted off THP due to having had such a poor season and my ever-increasing race schedule on the weekends.  My plants just didn't produce very well last year.  There wasn't a single reason; the combination of too much rain early in the season, leading to brownspot issues and then a really bad whitefly infestation brought my garden to its knees.  I did manage to overwinter several plants and get the pests under control which has given me a bit of a head start on this year.  That said, I've still found a way to be a little late to the party.   Let's start off with the Good News   In the "fall" (Florida doesn't really have seasons) I had a bit of a brain spark and...
Hey gang...   I'm super late starting my Glog, but I figured I should do it anyway. Hindsight is always 20/20 and had I know we were to have a mild winter, great spring, and perfect summer... I would have, should have, could have started 6 weeks before I did. Anyway that's all water under the bridge and despite we are enjoying a nice little grow this year.   Big thanks to Rick for trading on the Arche Noah stuff I bought.    Space is a premium here in Germany, and I definitely crammed as many plants as I could in my area of the family garden (4 generations enjoying this plot) With a little more space I think we could have an amazing garden. Learning a little every season and already looking forward to next year :)   Anyway, on to the...
Hello THP     This site came up in a stumble last year and growers here caught my eye.  Organics, hydroponics, indoor, outdoor, hugelkultur, personal gardens, professional gardens - it was a pleasure exploring this forum.  Since THP is often in my browser history anyway, how about some participation this year?   Seeds from PepperJoe came in about three weeks ago.  Naga Viper Carolina Reaper Charleston Jalapeno Giant/Black/Early + freebies   Some of these and Ghost seeds from last year were soaked overnight and planted today in a light soil mix.           The overwinters (Scorpion left, Caribbean Red Hab right) are hangin in there.  This winter in the mitten is a cold one - hopefully theyll make it.               It's a modest grow...
I think a little history may be required so you understand why this is important to me. Florida supposedly has a few types of wild peppers. One of them is a monster of a pepper called a Calusa Indian Mound.  It is supposed to get huge. I have never seen one in the wild nor in cultivation. The state of Florida recognizes Tabasco peppers as being a wild pepper down in a couple of counties in South Florida. Again, I've never seen one in the wild. The third one is called a Grove pepper. Growing up in Central Florida in the seventies, we use see them in some of the smaller citrus groves. From my understanding, grove peppers were common throughout most of the groves in Florida. workers would snack on them while working in the hot Florida sun...
So I'm new to growing peppers indoors but I want to try it and I'm just trying to get a feel how this set up is going to work it is two 32 watt cool white shop lights a 900 lumens cfl and a full spectrum sun bulb for aquarium.the whole thing is has walls of aluminum foil to reflect the light. I know its not very professional but it was the best I could do the two peppers are hot Portugal and orange habaneros.
Started five trays of the Shabu this evening for a germination test. Each tray is vendor specific, and each cell contains two seeds. The starting mix is Fox Farms Light Warrior.   My heat mat will only cover three trays at once, these are all going to germinate in hard mode.   Taking pictures with gloves on is hard. First picture looks like it was taken with a potato.
Just getting started, and don't even have a full list put together yet.   Yesterday I planted the following:   Pubescens:   6  Yellow Manzano (from Smokemaster) 6  Orange Manzano (from Fanatic 79) 9  Mexican Manzano (from Smokemaster)  Not sure on the color, it may be a mix.   Chinense:   6 Peach Habanero  (Harvested '12) 6 Pink Habanero (PepperJam) 3 Jamaican Hot Chocolate (Peppermania) 3 Bonda Ma Jacques  (?  no name on packet, and can't remember now) 3 Tobago Scotch - Yellow  (Melissa)   I may add a couple more, like maybe the Purple Bhut, or a Fatalii if I can find seeds for a yellow one.  How much hotter is the 7 Pot Yellow than the Fatalii?  I think I may have seeds for that one ...     The Baccatums will get sown in another week...
Hey all!  I'm back!  (like a bad cold... ;) )   Hope all is well with everyone.  I haven't looked at anyone else's glogs yet, but I decided I'd go ahead and throw out what is going on here.   Some may remember we moved into a new pad last September.  Some may also remember that my grow last year got overrun by bugs and was essentially gone.  I saved what peppers I could in the freezer, but given all the aphid, whitefly, and mite damage, I turned off the water and said goodbye to my plants in September, 2013.  I had a lot of peppers in the freezer, so I decided I was going to take this year off from growing anything.   A couple of months ago, I took a trip back over to the old house as I need to finish the renovations so we can get it on...
This year I'm growing a multitude of different peppers and veggies as usual.    most excited for the white naga jolokia, trinidad moruga and the  viper also have a variety of cayenne, jalapeno and some other ones that I really can't remember at the moment.    will upload pictures once I get around to getting them on this computer.
Here goes everyone, definitely new to the site - but I've been growing peppers for fun for a while. Not exactly how I did It this year though. I've always used the starter plants from local nurseries, but decided to have my hand at a from seed grow this time. I wanted something more substantial this time, not just the few plants that I had always had in the past. It's a learning experience for sure, and it took a lot of researching to make the switch from a small hobby grow to a larger from seed hobby grow. I was always fine with a small amount of peppers before, but I got the itch this year.... And here we are. First I constructed my grow box... Originally had the FlouroWing grow light, then added 2 more 6500k lights as an...
Living in Northern Michigan makes it tough to grow peppers, but last year I did pretty good. I had Fatalii and Naga Morich pump out hundreds of pods from each plant, so this year I wanted to go bigger. And since I'm moving next summer I need to get enough to make it through next year. I was fortunate enough to have met several very helpful and nice people who sent me seeds to use.  So here we go:   01DEC13: first seeds soak overnight in water.  I had 10 times more seed varieties than I could ever grow, so went with what I though would give me big yeilds.   TSMoruga red, yellow - MGOLD 86<---also sent awesome powders and peppers, thanks again man!! Brainstrain red, yellow- MGOLD 86 Primo- smileyguy697<----sent me more crazy strains than...
Hi all,    A complete newbie here - long time lurker, first time poster and undertaking my first real grow outside of a few plants on windowsill. Will swing by the Intro's in the next few days to say a proper Hi!   I live in the Wellington region of New Zealand, where it's just not overly warm most of the time.   (Around 22`c/70`f through summer days and 15`c/60`f or so over night, with too much wind. It's then 12`c/54`f in winter down to 0`c overnight, with way too much wind). Nights are pretty erratic, with frosts occurring when you think they shouldn't, and to add to it, we're often in drought for most of the summer. Much of the problem is that we're very much effected by microclimates, meaning from one place to another (even a 10...
Hello,   Forgive my bad english I hope you understand.    I have a small garden, so I grow my hot peppers in large pots. Only the sweet peppers are in the ground.  Here, the summer is very hot, dry and windy (many flower of C. chinense abort). In winter, frosts do not allow me to keep the plants outside.  Only a few plants are overwintered in heated tunnel, like C. rhomboideum & galapagoense.  I reseed each year in February. Seeds (2 varieties of each) are put directly in pots  6x6, and germinated in the bathroom at a constant temperature of 27/29 ° C.   This year I planted :    wild capsicums :   Aji Charapita (chinense) CAP 214 (baccatum) CAP 215 (baccatum) Chiltepin amarillo ( annuum var. glabriusculum) Chiltepin Dwarf (annuum var...
Well, let me start by saying "Thank You!" to many of the great members here on THP. I have gotten a lot of good advice and seeds from quite a few of y'all.    Here is my overwinter plant. It is a Carolina Reaper that I started in 2013. I gave it a serious pruning when I first brought it in. It was basically a few stems and no leaves at all. I placed it in front of a south facing window and it quickly began to produce new growth.  It grew about 2 feet taller then it began putting out tons of blooms. I was concerned about it getting too big. I moved it next to the window instead of directly in front of it so it would get a little less sun. I also have not watered it at all since mid-October. The new growth came to a stop and all of the...
