    Battered Chilli Plant

I've just been wondering whether I should give my plants a bit of a prune but thankfully mother nature has taken the decision for me. Just been out back and found the plastic greenhouse flung over the otherside of the garden. I had a chocolate bhut plant on a shelf which has taken a battering.  ...

    Wild Worm Castings

I'm just curious, can you use wild worm castings (by wild I mean the ones you find scattered about the place on lawns etc). I never got round to starting a worm bin but have quite a few castings scattered about the place.   Cheers

    soil Soil Ph

Just done one of those capsule tests for soil ph and it's looking like my potting soils at about an 8 which would explain my poor harvest last year. Anyway I've done some looking around and it looks like the best way to go is to add some sphagnum peat moss and/or agricultural sulphur.    Would I...

Will my tender babes be safe?

Hey everyone, I'm about to start germinating 3 varieties, white bullet habs, bird eye and possibly the last sb7j's (cheers Patrick). The thing is, I'm going on an astronomy holiday to tenerife in 6 weeks, I'll be gone for 1 week so my question is...will my young plants be ok for that amount of...

    Cal & Mag Tabs

I was just looking at the enormous range of vitamin pills in my kitchen and saw some calcium and magnesium tablets, could I sling a couple of these in a watering can, let them dissolve then water my plants with it? Would the plants be able to use the cal & mag in this form?   Just curious   Cheers

    Another Comfrey Question

So I've now got my young Comfrey plant in the ground. Thinking ahead for next year,  how much undiluted fertiliser would a single harvest of an averagely sized plant yield?

    'Tater Fert

Anyone had any experience using this stuff? I wasn't going to bother fertilising my 'taters but as its so cheap I thought I might as well (unless there's a good reason not to?)   Cheers   ***Forgot to put the link in, Derrrrr. Here it...

    Chalk layer

Really wasn't sure where to post this one but here goes... My garden has a layer of solid chalk about 6-12 inches down, it's not ideal having such shallow soil and really limits what I can grow. I grow all my fruit and veggies in containers but I recently got some comfrey without thinking about...

    Comfrey cuttings

I'm looking into starting a few comfrey plants in the garden, from what I hear they're a great way to fertilize your plants. Apparently you want to buy a variety called bocking 14 (as its sterile so your garden won't be overrun). I was wondering tho, whether I'd be able to start new plants from...

    Sun Scald Or Something Else?

Hey guys, I recently noticed a few little white spots on my white aubergine plant and originally thought it was sun scald caused by drops of water on the leaves in the hot sun. I'm starting to doubt my diagnosis now though and was looking for second opinions on the problem. Check out the photos...

    Kestrel Potatoes

I'm growing some Kestrel Potatoes this year (they're second earlies) and I've only just managed to get them into soil today. I'm just wondering if I've left it too late? What's the latest that potatoes can be harvested? Also, thought I'd add this as well, I've got them planted in a raised bed...

    pests A mitey pest

Well, last year I became inundated with red spider mites which seemed to coincide with me adding homemade compost to my plants. So my question is should I refrain from using my own compost or is it unlikely that these pests came from the depths of my compost bin? Cheers ***Just thought I...

    Growing for Flavour

I'm growing a few varieties this year but the ones I'm most looking forward to are the bonnets/bonnet crosses. There are loads of posts about growing for heat (stressing plants etc) but are there any tips for enhancing the flavour of my pods?

Anyone else a massive Borderlands Geek?

I have been bumming the hell out of Borderlands 2 recently and just wondered if there is anyone out there as sad as I am? Thought it would be cool to list the best loot you've personally found so far... Ga Dunk Ga Derp (Rocket Launcher) Damage = 596796 Accuracy = 76.2 Fire Rate = 1.1 Reload...

    Shade loving vines?

I'm hoping to do up the garden this summer, does anyone know of any vine type plants that would grow in nearly full shade? I'm looking to cover the north face of our garage in something that will grow up the walls but obviously due to its orientation the north wall is almost never in the sun...
